BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League Championship-winning Navy indoor track and field teams combined to place a league-best nine onto the league's all-academic team for the sport that was announced Thursday.
To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must have attained at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average at the school and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen and students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
Each team consists of 18 honorees. Navy placed a league-high five on the women's team and four on the men's team.
Earning the accolade from the Navy women's team are
Ellie Abraham,
Emily Boutin,
McKenna Brophy,
Alanna Julius and
Annie Taylor. Navy's representatives on the men's team are
Baynes Autrey,
Brett Brady,
Collin Greene and
Preston Wilson.
Abraham was selected to her third track and field all-academic team after being named to the indoor and outdoor teams last season. The Brookings, S.D., native placed fourth overall in the 800m and helped Navy win the 4x800m relay at this year's Patriot League Indoor Championship for the first time since 2011. She also was a member of Navy's distance medley relay team that broke the Navy and championship meet records with a time of 11:38.06. The history major has posted a 3.82 GPA and has received academic honors from the USNA in all five of her completed semesters. She ranks fifth in the Class of 2024 on the Military Order of Merit and 72nd in the Overall Order of Merit.
Boutin earned her first all-academic team award in track after receiving the accolade for cross country this fall. Additionally, she was named an All-Academic Athlete by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) last fall. At the indoor championship, the junior recorded the fourth-best time (16:48.04) in Navy history to place second in the 5,000m and broke the program record (9:29.35) in a second-place finish in the 3,000m. The English major ranks eighth in the Class of 2024 in the Military Order of Merit. She has received five academic accolades from the USNA and has compiled a 3.72 GPA.
Brophy, an ocean engineering major, received her first all-academic team award this spring. She too was a member of Navy's 4x800m relay team that won the gold medal at the Patriot League Indoor Championship. The junior owns a 3.98 GPA and has received five academic honors from the USNA. She ranks 40th in her class in the Overall Order of Merit.
Julius was part of the winning distance medley relay team and also placed third in the mile with a time of 4:54.87 at this year's championship meet. The senior electrical engineering major was named to the all-academic team for the first time. She possesses a 3.71 GPA with seven USNA academic honors.
Taylor scored the sixth-most points in the pentathlon in Navy history (3,666) to win the event at the league championship. The junior mathematics major earned her first Patriot League academic team recognition after previously being named a 2021 USTFCCCA Scholar-Athlete and earning 2022 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) First Team Academic All-District honors. She is one of the top-ranked students in the Class of 2024, ranking second in the Military Order of Merit, first in the Academic Order of Merit and fifth in the Overall Order of Merit. She has received five USNA academic honors while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
Autrey earned his second Patriot League All-Academic Team award this spring. The indoor men's team captain won his second league indoor title in the heptathlon, scoring the fourth-most points in Navy history with 5,495. The history major has collected seven USNA academic honors and owns a 3.47 GPA.
Brady adds another academic award to his legacy. The senior aerospace engineering major has now been named to the Patriot League Track and Field Academic All-League Team three times (2022, '23 - indoor / 2022 - outdoor) and previously earned Third Team Academic All-America (2022) honors. Additionally, he has collected two Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards in cross country (2021, '22) and has been named to the Patriot League All-Academic Team for cross country the last two seasons. He set a new personal-best time in the 5,000m (14:18.05) at this year's meet to place fourth. He has attained a 3.87 GPA and earned six academic honors from the USNA.
Greene collected the first all-academic team honor of his career after having one of his best performances at the Patriot League Indoor Championship. He placed second in the shot put with a throw of 16.35m (53' 7.75:) and fourth in the weight throw with a new collegiate-best distance of 19.53m (64' 1"). The chemistry major has earned five USNA academic honors and has posted a 3.74 GPA.
Wilson also received his first Patriot League academic team nod. He tied his collegiate-best height of 2.05m (6' 8.75") in the high jump to place second at the conference championship. The sophomore robotics and control engineering major ranks seventh in his class in the Military Order of Merit and 17th in the Overall Order of Merit. He holds a 3.98 GPA along with three USNA academic honors.
