ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy (15-19, 4-0) men's tennis team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Bucknell (12-6, 2-2), 5-2, Saturday afternoon in Lewisburg, Pa.  The Mids also lost a 6-1 decision to Drexel (6-10) in Philadelphia.

Navy 5, Bucknell 2
Bucknell took an early 1-0 lead after doubles as the Bison won the first and third matches to finish to claim the point.  Navy's win came at No. 1 doubles where Luke Garner (So., Arnold, Md.) and Sasha Panyan (Jr., Lutherville, Md.) defeated Harrison Gold and Brendan McDonald by the score of 6-3. 

"We were unable to capitalize on a number of opportunities in doubles," said Navy head coach Chris Garner.  "Bucknell did really well in coming back to take the doubles point from us."

The teams then split the first set in the six singles matches.  The Bison won the first match to finish, a 6-2, 6-2 win by McDonald over Aniketh Ayinala (Fr., Charlotte, N.C.) at No. 6 singles, to take the 2-0 advantage.  Garner earned his second win of the day when he defeated Nick Mueller, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3, to place Navy's first point of the day on the scoreboard.  Herrick Legaspi (Fr., Sacramento, Calif.) followed with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Michael Owen at the No. 4 flight to tie the team score at 2-2.  

Gavin Segraves (Sr., Charlottesville, Va.) made it three wins in a row for the Mids when he defeated Amar Tahirovic, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 2 flight.  Panyan had dropped the first set of his No. 1 singles match against Gold by the score of 6-2.  He rallied to win the second set, 6-4, then won the third set by the same score to clinch the team victory for the Mids.

The last match left on the court was at No. 5 singles and featured Navy's J.J. Etterbeek (Fr., Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) battling Bucknell's Tim Zelikovsky.  Zelikovsky won the first set, 6-4, then Etterbeek won set number two, 7-5.  The two played a 10-point tiebreaker to decide the match instead of a complete third set.  Etterbeek would outlast Zelikovsy, 12-10.

"The guys were able to get their bearings with the weather and the type of ball it generated as the match wore on," said Garner.  "Luke, Herrick and Gavin winning in straight sets was impressive as their respective opponents are very good players.  Sasha was able to come back from being down a break in the third set, which also was great to see."

Drexel 6, Navy 1
The Mids won the doubles point from the Dragons thanks to wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 flights. Graydon Buckingham (Fr., Daufuskie Island, S.C.) and Dylan Carol (Sr., Miami, Fla.) combined for a 6-2 victory over Daniel Dudockin and Matvey Radionov at No. 2 doubles in the first match to finish.  After Drexel won at the No. 1 flight, Matthew McNair (Fr., Annapolis, Md.) and Nathan Nguyen (Fr., McLean, Va.) recorded a 6-4 win at the No. 3 flight to secure the point for Navy.

Drexel went on to win the first set in each of the six singles matches and won five of those matches in straight sets.

Navy will continue its Patriot League season Sunday at 10 a.m. when the Mids play host to Colgate.  Navy also will play a 2 p.m. match at George Mason.
