ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy women's lacrosse head coach Cindy Timchal officially announced that rising seniors
Leelee Denton (Nashville, Tenn.) and
Katie Golbranson (Newport Beach, Calif.) would serve as team captains for the 2024 season. Denton will serve as the offensive captain, while Golbranson will captain the defense.
"Every single girl in my class is an amazing leader, and they are all role models to me in different ways," Denton stated. "I am so excited to serve them next year and have such an amazing season with them and the rest of the team! I feel very blessed to have this opportunity, but I wouldn't be here without the constant support of my family, friends, teammates and mentors that have helped me grow in so many ways since my plebe year. I can't wait to have an unforgettable senior year with the team and advance to the NCAA tournament with my girls next season!"
Denton has appeared in 48 games, making 23 starts in her career. She has recorded 86 points on 75 goals with 11 assists. She enters her final year of play as Navy's active leader in hat tricks with 14, while boasting five game-winning goals. In addition, the Nashville native has picked up 23 ground balls, won five draw controls, and caused a pair of turnovers. For her efforts this past season, Denton was named First Team All-Patriot League.
"This team is full of amazing leaders, and I cannot wait to see what we accomplish together this upcoming season," said Golbranson. Golbranson has persisted throughout her Navy career, going from a walk on to a starter in her three seasons at the Academy. The California native worked her way into a starting role as a junior, finishing the 2023 season with 18 starts in 19 games played. The defender won 20 draw controls, while picking up 18 ground balls and causing 18 of her 19 career caused turnovers in 2023. Additionally, Golbranson helped the Navy offense, serving as a primary figure in the Midshipmen's transition game, while also finishing last season with a pair of assists.
