WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The varsity four boat from the Navy lightweight rowing team placed fifth in the grand final Saturday at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship, Saturday on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J.
Poor weather halted the last few races slated for Friday, with one of the casualties being the semifinals of the varsity four race. That round of racing was canceled and the 10 competing boats were placed into the respective finals based upon the results of the Friday morning time trials. Navy had placed third in the time trial, which sent the Mids into Saturday's grand final.
Navy's entry posted a time of 7:23.955 to place fifth in the six-boat final. Georgetown won the race with a clocking of 7:13.189. Cornell earned the silver medal with its effort of 7:18.211 and Harvard walked off the podium with a bronze medal with its time of 7:20.605.
Princeton edged the Mids for fourth place with a posting of 7:22.125.
Navy's first varsity eight will compete in the grand final Sunday at 10:20 a.m. and the team's second varsity eight will compete in the lone final for the event tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
