ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy men's soccer head coach
Tim O'Donohue announced the team's 18-game schedule for the upcoming 2023 season on Thursday, as the Midshipmen seek to repeat as Patriot League champions for the first time in program history.
Boasting a fall slate that features 11 games in its home state and another contest in the nation's capital, Navy begins the program's 103rd season on Thursday, Aug. 24 when it heads to UNC Asheville for the second all-time meeting between the schools.
Returning to Annapolis for a four-match homestand, the Mids welcome VMI on Monday, Aug. 28 for the team's home opener at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Following matches with Howard (Sept. 1) and Liberty (Sept. 3), Navy closes out the homestand against Longwood on Friday, Sept. 8, as the Mids will look to extend a four-game winning streak over the Lancers.
Navy hits the road again for a Sept. 11 neutral-site meeting with George Mason at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md., marking the Mids' first match at the 4,000-seat stadium. The Patriot League slate opens up on Sept. 16 with Navy traveling up north to play regional rival Loyola, while a Sept. 19 trip to Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., will close out the three-game road swing.
Bucknell makes the trip to Annapolis on Sept. 23, as the Mids host the Bison in Navy's first league home match of the season. Navy then makes the short drive to Washington, D.C. on Sept. 27 for a rematch of the 2022 Patriot League Championship Game against American, before coming home for a Sept. 30 contest against Lehigh.
Another trip to Baltimore on Oct. 3 will see the Mids take on UMBC in a non-conference tilt to start a stretch of three-straight games outside of Annapolis, as Navy follows that with an Oct. 7 contest at Boston University for a rematch of the 2022 league semifinal. The road trip ends with a historic rivalry renewed, as the Mids and Black Knights are set to play in Army-Navy Cup XII on Oct. 13 at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa., home of the 2022 MLS Cup finalist Philadelphia Union.
Navy returns to Glenn Warner on Oct. 21, hosting Holy Cross on Senior Day. The Mids then head to College Park, Md., on Oct. 24 for their final non-conference match of the regular season, taking on 2022 Big Ten Champion Maryland in the first meeting between the teams since 2015.
After making the long trek to Central New York to play Colgate on Oct. 28, Navy closes out the regular season with a Nov. 1 match at home against Lafayette, the Mids' opponent from the 2022 Patriot League Quarterfinals.
The 2023 Patriot League Tournament is slated to start with quarterfinal action on Nov. 4, with the semifinal round set for Nov. 7 and the championship game on Nov. 11.
