ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's golf team is set to face Maryland in a match play event on Saturday morning, as the in-state foes will battle it out at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md.
Competition in the singles match play between the Midshipmen and Terrapins is slated to begin at 10:20 a.m. on the par-72, 6,084-yard course.
Match Play Format
The Mids and Terps will compete in a modified match play instead of the normal dual-match format, as the two teams will play eight singles matches … Singles competition will pit one player from each team against each other, hole after hole, with a point being awarded to the player with the lowest score at the end of the round … The winning golfer will earn a team point with a win, while a tie earns a half-point … If the teams are tied at the end of singles competition, there will be a one-person playoff to determine the team win.
Match Play History
This will mark the third time Navy has participated in a match play that only features single competition … The Mids dropped a sudden-death playoff hole to Delaware on March 25, 2023 after tying, 3-3, following the six singles matches in Annapolis, with Eve Worden,
Stephanie Lee and
Sue Lee all claiming victory … Navy then beat the Blue Hens, 5-3, in the April 6, 2024 event in Wilmington, Del., as

Hallie Brisco,
Sue Lee and
Bridget Hoang all won their matchups … The Mids also have a 6-2 record in dual matches that includes singles and four-ball play.

Navy wrapped up its third tournament of the fall season on Sunday, tying for fifth at UAlbany's Great Danes Invitational in Delmar, N.Y. … The Mids finished tied for fifth with St. John's in a 12-team field, shooting a 51-over par 611 over two rounds … Senior captain

Scouting Maryland
Led by fourth-year head coach and former Navy assistant Kelly Hovland, the Terps have three tournaments under their belts this fall … Maryland opened the season by taking ninth at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, where Nicha Kanpai took the individual title to earn Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors … After tying for fifth at the Cavalier Regional Preview, the team then placed 10th in the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah last weekend … Kanpai and teammates Panassaya Somchit and Chananyu Chowiwattana were named to the Big Ten Golfers to Watch List last month.
