Meet Scoring
Only the first seven runners on an institution's team may be used in determining scoring places (sixth and seventh team finishers displace, but do not score). A score shall be established by totaling the final scoring place finish of an institution's first five runners to finish the race. The team scoring the lowest number of points wins. If two or more competitors are judged as having tied for a place, points for the places involved shall be divided equally between these competitors. Ties in team scoring shall be broken by comparing in order the place finish of each of the five winning scoring members of the tied teams. The team with the majority of winning comparisons shall be awarded the higher place.

Series
WOMEN:
Saturday's race will be the 39th Army-Navy Star Meet between the two rivals. All-time, the Mids lead the series 23-15. Navy has won 12 of the last 18 matchups dating back to 2006 and five of the last six meetings between the two teams in Annapolis.

Last season, senior team captain Emily Boutin posted a first-place finish individually, but Navy dropped a 26-30 decision to Army at the West Point Golf Course. Boutin led start to finish, closing out the 6K race with a time of 20:03.8 to win by 35.3 seconds.

After Boutin, the Black Knights claimed the next three places. Navy's Sophie Compton, Ellie Abraham, and Caroline Harding finished in order, fifth, sixth, and seventh. Army rounded out the top 10 finishers. Alex Wercinski finished 11th, while McKenna Brophy took 12th. Olivia Lutkevich rounded out Navy's top seven competitors with a 14th-place finish.

Head coach Kim Lewnes will be leading the Mids for sixth time in this rivalry with a pair of Star wins to her credit (2021, '22).

MEN: Saturday will mark the 87th Star Meet in the history of the Army-Navy men's cross country rivalry. All-time Navy leads 54-31-1. After a dominant stretch from 2009 through 2016 that saw the Mids win seven of eight meets, the Black Knights closed the gap in the all-time series with back-to-back wins in 2017 and 2018. Navy got back to its winning ways in October of 2019 to captured the 50th victory in the series. The Mids have won five consecutive races in the series.

Last year, Navy claimed the top four spots and placed seven runners in the top 10 to cruise to a 17-43 victory over Army at the West Point Golf Course. Murphy Smith was the individual winner in the 8K race with Alexander Kirkland, Sam Keeny, and Luke Nester finishing in order second through fourth for the Midshipmen. The score tied for the lowest for the Midshipmen against Army under head coach Aaron Lanzel (Navy defeated Army 17-46 in 2021).

Sam Moultrie completed Navy's top-5 scorers, finishing seventh overall, while Justin Mumford and Matt Newell rounded out the Mids' top seven competitors with an eighth- and 10th-place finish, respectively.

This is the seventh Army-Navy meet that Lanzel will be participating in as a head coach (5-1 record). As a student-athlete from 1999-02, Lanzel went 4-0 in Star Meets.

Up Next
Saturday's competition marks the conclusion of Navy's regular season as both teams will turn their attention to action at the 2024 Patriot League Championship on Saturday, November 2.
