LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 12 Navy rifle team (5-3, 2-1 GARC) fell to No. 5 Kentucky (3-0, 1-0 GARC) in a Great America Rifle Conference match, 4727-4692, on Saturday at the UK Rifle Range in the Midshipmen's first road contest of the season.
As a team, the Midshipmen posted a smallbore score of 2331 before combining for a 2361 in air rifle. The Mids notched an aggregate tally of 4692, but were unable to overcome the Wildcats who finished with a 4727.
Isabella Baldwin led the way for the Midshipmen on the day. The sophomore posted her second highest total of the season with an aggregate score of 1182. She was one point shy of her season-best that she set against TCU / VMI. The 1182 was just two points back of her career high of 1184 that she tallied three times as a freshman – at Ole Miss (Oct. 21, 2023), at The Citadel / vs. Georgia Southern (Feb. 10, 2024), and the NCAA Qualifier vs. John Jay (Feb. 17, 2024). Baldwin carded a career-high 598 in air rifle, topping her previous high of 597 against Akron and West Virginia at home on Jan. 27, 2024. She notched a score of 584 in smallbore.
Marleigh Duncan finished the day with an aggregate total of 1174. The senior posted scores of 585 in smallbore and 589 in air rifle to finish second among the Navy shooters.
Senior team captain
Stephanie Milvain was third among the Mids. She carded a smallbore score of 584, while finishing the day with a score of 587 in air rifle to post a combined score of 1171.
Parker Haydin was fourth on the team, while
Joshua Potts and
Ryan Wee tied for fifth among the Midshipmen shooters. Haydin finished with an aggregate score of 1165 after performances of 578 and 587 in smallbore and air rifle, respectively. Potts and Wee were one points back with an 1164 each. Potts posted season-high performances in air rifle (591) and aggregate (1164). Wee finished the day with a 578 (smallbore) and 586 (air rifle) for his 1164 aggregate score.
Freshman
Elizabeth Johnson notched new season-best marks in smallbore (573) and aggregate (1155), while
Catherine Dely was one point back with a score of 1154 after scores of 569 (smallbore) and 585 (air rifle).
Devin Uhrich notched a season-high score of 570 in smallbore to go along with a 580 in air rifle for an 1150 aggregate score.
Grace Shepard rounded out the scoring with a 555 smallbore and 584 air rifle for an 1139.
Navy will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. for the annual President's Trophy Match against its fellow service academies. Competition at the Air Force Academy's Cadet Rifle Range is slated for Saturday, Nov. 2.
