Bucknell Uses Serving Game to Defeat Navy Volleyball

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Bucknell recorded 17 service aces to defeat the Navy volleyball team and win its 14th match in a row, Saturday afternoon at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis.  The Bison posted a 25-15, 25-9, 25-18 victory over the Mids.

"Credit Bucknell for playing a complete match," said Navy head coach Paco Labrador.  "They are playing at the championship level this season.  We had stretches within the match where I thought we really pushed them."

Set One
It was a 6-5 Bucknell lead when the Bison scored five-straight points to open up an 11-6 advantage.  Navy was able to close to within three points at 12-9 and then was within shouting distance until the Bison built leads of 19-13 and 23-14.

Set Two
A service error by the Mids gave the Bison the serve with the visitors holding a 9-7 lead.  Jordan Hardy stepped to the service line and stayed there through her giving Bucknell a 17-7 cushion.

Set Three
The score would be tied 11 times and the lead exchanged on five occasions.  A Bucknell kill tied the score for what would prove to be the last time at 17-17, with Hardy immediately dropping back to serve.  Her last offering came with the Bison in front by the score of 23-17.

Inside the Numbers
Bucknell held a 17-4 lead in aces and also registered 45 kills and a .344 hitting percentage to better the 20 kills and .134 hitting effort recorded by Navy.

Bucknell's Tijana Kostic accounted for six aces and Hardy added five.

Farrah Eike led Navy with both six kills and six digs.  Emerson Lionberger posted four kills and a .333 hitting percentage.

"Farrah put up another solid day attacking and Emerson took some big swings too," said Labrador.  "We know our serve and pass game has to improve for us to have success in the league, and each player is determined to take a step forward in those skills."
