LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Five wrestlers placed in the top five in their respective weight class, as the Navy wrestling team (1-3) competed at the Mat Town Open on Sunday at Lock Haven, Pa.
Cooper Rathburn (157 / Fr. / Columbus, Ohio) led the way with a fourth-place finish going 2-2 overall. He was the only Midshipmen to advance to the semifinals. He earned his first collegiate victory by a major decision over Bucknell's Brian Shindel (10-0), then defeated Cornell's Buzzy Bomberger (3-0) to ounch his ticket to the semifinals. Rathburn would drop his next two matches by combined three points (3-2, 8-6).
Nick Treaster (125 / Fr. / Newton, Kan.), Liam Kilrain (174 / So. / Virginia Beach, Va.) and Cael Crebs (184 / Sr. / Montoursville, Pa.) each took fifth-place on Sunday. Treaster recovered from a loss in the quarterfinals to win his final bout with a 20-5 tech fall over Lock Haven's Alex Reed. In the fifth-place match, he defeated Lock Haven's Austin Pollard in a narrow 7-6 decision.
Kilrain bounced back from dropping his opening bout loss with an 18-6 victory over Penn State Altoona's Andrew Weaver. In the fifth-place bout, Kilrain posted a 5-1 decision victory over fellow Midshipmen, Jonanthan Sanchez (174 / So. / Lebanon, Ohio).
Sanchez rounded out the Mids' place winners taking sixth at 174-pounds with his win coming from a medical forfeit.
