Weekend Begins With Pair of Wins for Men’s Tennis

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team swept a doubleheader today in the Tose Family Tennis Center.  The Mids (14-2) began the day with a 6-1 victory over Morgan State (1-2) and then posted a 4-3 victory over Hofstra (2-5).

The Mids won each of the three doubles matches, but all were close contests. Luke Garner and Sasha Panyan first combined for a 7-5 victory at the No. 1 flight.  Jason Kim and Steve Nguyen followed with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.  Completing the sweep was the No. 3 team of Matthew McNair and Nicholas Nguyen who posted a 7-6 (11-9) victory.

Nicholas Nguyen made the score 2-0 when he lost just one game in winning his No. 5 singles match.  Panyan then posted a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.  After the Bears won at the No. 2 flight, Zach Quattro clinched the overall match decision with hos 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.  Navy's additional two points were won by, in order of finish, Kim at No. 4 singles (7-5, 7-5) and Steve Nguyen at No. 3 singles (7-5, 6-7 [1-7], 1-0 [10-4]).

Navy 4, Hofstra 3
Hofstra earned the doubles point from Navy with wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 flights.  Posting a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles for the Mids was the team of Tommy Kim and Jake Young.

Kim tied the score at 1-1 with his 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.  Nathan Nguyen gave the Mids the lead thanks to his 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 4 singles.  Young then placed Navy's third point on the scoreboard with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.  A few minutes later, Aniketh Ayinala posted a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles to secure the team win.
