Tannenbaum Tabbed as Patriot League Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

Navy Junior Went a Combined 4-0 Over the Weekend, Extending Singles Win Streak

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After posting a combined 4-0 record on the weekend between singles and doubles play, Navy junior Emily Tannenbaum was named the Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Earning the honor for the first time this season and the fourth time in her career, Tannenbaum helped Navy pick up wins in two of its three matches this past weekend while going individually going 2-0 in both singles and doubles action.

The reigning Patriot League Player of the Year, Tannenbaum opened the weekend by teaming up with freshman Olivia Fermo in the No. 2 doubles position against Howard, defeating the pairing of Ava Chambers and Selah Stibbins by a 6-1 final. She then notched a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Sifa Butcher in the No. 1 matchup to help push the Midshipmen over the edge in a 4-3 team win.

Taking a rest in Navy's 7-0 sweep of Saint Joseph's to close out Saturday, Tannenbaum came back for the Mids' match at Delaware on Sunday and partnered with Fermo for another win at No. 2 doubles, knocking off Samantha Svendsen and Julieta Honrubia, 7-5. Tannenbaum then scored a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory against Slade Coetzee in the No. 1 spot for Navy's lone singles win of the day.

With the two singles wins, Tannenbaum has now won her last seven singles matches and sits at 5-0 this spring in singles play. She also ranks fourth in program history with 73 singles wins and fifth in the Navy record books with 129 combined victories.

Tannenbaum and Navy return to action on Sunday, Feb. 11, hosting George Mason and George Washington in a doubleheader at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
