Maren Louridas Named to Patriot League All-Academic Team

Sophomore earns program's fourth-ever league academic honor

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Navy women's basketball team's haul of postseason awards continued to grow on Monday with the Patriot League announcement of Maren Louridas to the 2023-24 Patriot League All-Academic Team. Honored for her work on and off the court, Louridas was selected as one of five student-athletes from across the conference. This is the first academic all-league award for Navy women's basketball since 2018 and just fourth all-time in program history.

A two-year starter for the Mids over her first two seasons in Annapolis, Louridas has started 59 games and scored over 500 points and grabbed over 300 rebounds so far in her young career. A member of the 2022-23 Patriot League All-Rookie Team, Louridas has transitioned from a go-to scorer to a tenacious lockdown defender this season for Navy. While scoring 5.9 points per game as a sophomore, the Delmar, New York native has picked up her rebounding numbers with 5.9 board per contest to go along with 1.1 steals per game. Both totals rank among the Patriot League's best, as Louridas is ninth in rebounding and 19th in steals. She increased both rates in Patriot League play to 6.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals over 32.1 minutes per game.

A standout in the classroom, Louridas has recorded a 4.0 grade point average in cyber operations over her first three semesters at the Naval Academy. Her success has resulted in three Commandant's List accolades and a spot on the 2022-23 Patriot League Honor Roll.

As a program this is just the fourth-ever Patriot League All-Academic Team honor since the league started naming a five-person team in 2011, previously it was just a single Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. After Audrey Bauer went back-to-back in 2012 and 2013 for the Mids' first academic all-league awards it was five years before Hannah Fenske earned a nod in 2018. Prior to the introduction of the Patriot League All-Academic Team, Courtney Davidsion was a two-time Patriot League Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2003 and 2004.

Louridas and her Midshipmen teammates are in the midst of the 2024 Patriot League Tournament and have a quarterfinal matchup at second-seeded Colgate this evening starting at 6 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y. Navy is coming off a 22-point win over Lafayette in the first round of the tournament on Saturday afternoon in Annapolis.
