KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Twenty-third-ranked
David Key (184) continued his impressive postseason run during the second day of the 93rd NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo. The Norcross, Ga., claimed All-America honors for earning a spot in the seventh-place bout after compiling a 1-2 record on Friday.
Key, who was seeded 25th in the tournament, garnered the 65th All-America nod in team history and the first since Tanner Skidgel (2nd team) and Spencer Carey (honorable mention), who were named All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) following the 2020 season when the tournament was canceled due to Covid-19. He will be first Navy wrestler to reach the podium since Mathew Miller, who earned All-America distinction in 2016 after placing fifth at 184 pounds.
The senior is one of only four wrestlers seeded 20th or higher to claim a spot in a placement match.
After falling in the quarterfinals to Northern Iowa's No. 1 Parker Keckeisen, Key bounced back with his second win in the tournament over a top-10 opponent. He defeated No. 9 Colton Hawks of Missouri by a 2-1 decision in the blood round. Key scored his first point with an escape in the second period. Hawks tied the match by scoring an escape with nine seconds left in the third period. However, Key racked up nearly two minutes of riding time in the final period to receive an additional point. With the victory, Key advanced to the consolation fifth round to guarantee at least an eighth-place finish in his respective weight class.
Key fell in his final match of the day to South Dakota State's No. 8 Bennett Berge by technical fall (17-2 / 5:47). He will face Virginia Tech's No. 10 TJ Stewart in the seventh-place match tomorrow.

Koderhandt took on Nebraska's No. 8 Brock Hardy in the blood round. A pair of takedowns by Hardy was the difference in the match to defeat Koderhandt by a 7-3 decision.
Cerniglia began day two with a victory over Ohio's No. 15 Garrett Thompson. Cerniglia took a 3-0 lead in the first period with a takedown. He prevented Thompson from scoring an escape in the second period and increased his riding time to nearly three minutes. Cerniglia scored a reversal in the third period to go up, 5-0. Thompson earned his first point after Cerniglia was called for stalling for the second time. Thompson then recorded a reversal with 26 seconds remaining in the match to make the score, 5-3. Cerniglia countered with a reversal eight seconds later to regain a three-point edge. He also secured the riding time point to win by a 7-3 decision.
Cerniglia fell in the consolation third round to No. 25 Hunter Garvin of Stanford by technical fall (19-2 / 6:18).
Wask claimed his second win of the championship in overtime against North Carolina's No. 19 Tyler Eischens. Wask fell behind, 7-2, but scored a takedown with 37 seconds left in the second period. Wask chose to start the third period in the neutral position, which helped him score the go-ahead takedown. Eischens tied the match with an escape to send it into overtime. Wask took the match in TB2 by scoring a reversal to win by a 10-8 decision.
Wask concluded his first trip to nationals against No. 16 Gaven Sax of North Dakota State. Sax won the match by a 10-0 major decision.
