ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Following another stellar weekend, Navy junior
Emily Tannenbaum was named the Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the second-straight time, the league office announced Tuesday.
Posting a combined 3-0 record between doubles and singles play, Tannenbaum helped the Midshipmen to a pair of wins over Drexel and FDU after nearly leading Navy to an upset of No. 60 Liberty. This marks the third time this season and the sixth time in her decorated career that Tannenbaum has taken home the league's top weekly honor.
In Navy's down-to-the-wire 4-2 loss to No. 60 Liberty on Friday, Tannenbaum and freshman
Olivia Fermo picked up a 6-2 doubles win over the No. 1 pairing of Marina Davtyan and Maria Turchetto, while No. 1 singles play had Tannenbaum ahead of 2023 All-ASUN First Teamer Maria Juliana Parra Romero, 4-6, 7-5, 2-0, when it was abandoned.
Leading Navy to a 5-2 victory over Drexel on Saturday morning, Tannenbaum partnered with Fermo for a 6-4 doubles win against Elisa Rigazio and Maddie Ricardo on the top court, before going on to capture a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win against 2023 All-CAA First Teamer Lorie Lemongo in the No. 1 singles spot.
Tannenbaum improved to 10-0 in singles play this spring and notched her 78th career singles win, tying Darien Sears for third in program history. Also winning her 12th-straight singles match dating back to the fall, Tannenbaum is now tied for the third-longest singles winning streak in program history and is three wins away from catching Kacey Moore's program-record 15-straight singles wins.
Navy returns to action on Thursday afternoon, hosting Georgetown in a 1 p.m. contest at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
