Pair of Women’s Lacrosse Freshmen Earn Weekly Honors

Felicia Giglio (Goalkeeper) and Mikayla Williams (Rookie) earned Patriot League weekly accolades.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its weekly women's lacrosse award winners and Navy's Felicia Giglio and Mikayla Williams were recognized for their efforts in Saturday's Star-Game victory over Army. Giglio was selected as the Goalkeeper of the Week, while Williams earned Rookie of the Week distinction.

For Giglio, it is the third conference weekly honor of the season (Goalkeeper – Feb. 12, April 15; Rookie – March 18), while it was Williams' third Rookie of the Week accolade (Feb. 12, March 11, April 15).

The duo helped Navy defeat rival Army, 17-11, at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The game, which was presented by USAA, saw the Mids use timely scoring, solid defense, and domination in the draw circle to earn the Star.

With the win, the Midshipmen secured the overall 2023-24 Army-Navy Star Series, presented by USAA, 13-10-1 with two events – men's tennis (Saturday, April 20 in Annapolis) and baseball (Friday-Sunday, April 26-28 in West Point) remaining. The Mids are now 40-4-2 in the last 46 years competing in the annual Star Series.

Giglio worked a complete game at goal for the Midshipmen, holding one of the most prolific offenses in the Patriot League to just 11 goals, which was Army's lowest goal total in Patriot League play this season. The freshman finished the game with six saves, while adding a caused turnover and a ground ball. She held Army to two goals or less in two quarters. Giglio registered three saves in the first quarter, including one stop on a free position opportunity, while adding three second-half saves. In addition, she helped out in the transition game, leading Navy to converting 13-of-14 clear attempts (.928), including 10 consecutive successful clears to start the game.

Williams recorded her third collegiate hat trick, scoring three goals in her first Star Game. Additionally, she finished with three ground balls, three draw controls, and a caused turnover. Williams was part of a draw control unit that won 26 of 31 draw controls in the game, which tied for the second most draw wins in a game in program history. The freshman opened up the second quarter with a goal to give Navy a three-goal advantage, 7-4, while netting her second goal of the day to extend the Mids' lead to six, 14-8, in the third quarter. Williams capped her day, scoring her third goal of the game to help put the game out of reach, 16-11, in the fourth quarter.

Up next, Navy remains at home with a midweek game against Lehigh on Wednesday, April 17. The game, which will be broadcast on ESPN+, is slated for 6:00 p.m.
