Murphy Wraps Up Second Day Of NCAA East Preliminaries For Navy Track and Field

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Junior Renny Murphy of the Navy women's track and field team competed in the javelin during the second day of the NCAA East Preliminaries on Thursday at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex in Lexington, Ky.

Murphy finished in 27th place in the event out of 48 athletes by posting a mark of 45.16m (148' 2") on her first throw of the competition. The Berwick, Pa., native finished two spots ahead of her placement at the East Preliminaries last season.

"Renny (Murphy) had another great season. She accomplished the biggest goal of the year, which was winning the javelin in the Army-Navy dual meet against an athlete who also qualified for regionals. She later placed third at the Patriot League Championship and that was really impressive with how good this conference is in the javelin," said Associate Head Coach Chris Campbell. "She dealt with up and down moments throughout the year like a lot of javelin throwers do, but always persevered. She recorded a new personal best of 49.03m (160' 10"), which is currently the sixth-best mark in program history. That distance is almost two meters better than her previous personal record heading into the season.

"She had a good mark on her first attempt, but unfortunately fouled on her next two throws. I'm very excited to see what she will do going into her senior year. She has gained valuable experience competing in the regional meet the last two seasons and is looking forward to taking that next step. Last night she saw the excitement of Braden Presser and Joshua Boamah qualifying for nationals and she wants to have a taste of that success too. We will be relying on her heavily next year for her leadership and scoring points in the javelin along with Caleb Walker on the men's side."

The men's track and field team will be back in action tomorrow for day three of the East Preliminaries at 2 p.m. with Benjemen Schneider in the high jump. Ben Countiss and Sam Keeny both compete in the 3,000m steeplechase at 5:40 p.m. to begin the track events. Brahmir Vick will race in the 110m hurdle quarterfinal at 6:15 p.m. Nathan Kent takes part in the 400m quarterfinal at 6:50 p.m. Jacques Guillaume then gears up for the 400m hurdle quarterfinal at 7:25 p.m. The evening will conclude with the 4x400m relay race at 8:45 p.m. Fans can watch all track events tomorrow on ESPN+ beginning at 5 p.m. with the provided on NavySports.com(.)
