ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy offshore sailing team took first place in class in both events of the 170th Annual New York Yacht Club Regatta this past weekend in Newport, R.I., just weeks after taking the top four spots in its division at the Southern Bay Race Week in Hampton, Va.
Opening the month of June at the Southern Bay Race Week, rising senior skipper
Elliot Brandicourt led Navy's DEFIANCE to a first-place finish in the 10-team PHRF-A2 class and fellow senior
Inaki Romero-Garza skippered INTEGRITY to second place, while senior
Nathan Broomfield was the skipper for the third-place GALLANT and senior
Augustus Reed guided TENACIOUS to fourth in the class.
In the NYYC's Around the Island Race, DEFIANCE was the first in a 17-boat class to finish and the Mids aboard TENACIOUS took third in the class. DEFIANCE was led by Brandicourt and crewed by rising juniors

Jordan Hall and rising sophomores Laura Gilfert, Frank Bradshaw, Dylan Pace and Nico Martinez.
In the NYYC two-day race series, Navy's GALLANT put up scores of 5-1-2 to pull ahead of the second-place boat by two points, while Defiance barely missed the podium with a fourth-place finish in the 17-boat fleet. Skippered by Broomfield, the GALLANT's crew consisted of rising senior
