Navy Women’s Basketball Announces Freshmen Recruiting Class: Nia Henley

Mids welcome three recruited freshmen to the program

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's basketball program under the direction of fifth-year head coach Tim Taylor is pleased to introduce a talented trio of freshmen, who will be joining the team for this upcoming 2024-25 season. The Class of 2028 consists of three recruited student-athletes from the east coast. Over this past week, each recruit was profiled; today we conclude the roll-out with Nia Henley of Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Henley will continue to infuse talent into Navy's growing guard rotation after an accolade-filled youth career. Henley played interscholastically at TPLS Christian Academy before heading to Riverbend High School and head coach Wayne Via to conclude her academic and athletic journey. She excelled as a facilitator running the point, as well as a scorer netting over 1,000 cumulative points. Henley's career reached a crescendo as a junior as she was named the 2022 Virginia Class 5A Commonwealth District Player of the Year. She continued to succeed as a senior earning First Team All-Commonwealth District and First Team Class 5 All-Region D honors, while serving as Riverbend's captain.

Away from the high school hardwood, Henley played for coaches Tim and Katie Fudd of the GTS Fusion club in the Under Armour circuit. Additionally, she was selected to the Stephen Curry Underrated Basketball Tour during the summer of 2022.

The daughter of Jahi and Alisha, she was a multi-sport athlete in high school as she was a sprinter with track team, running the 100-, 200-m dashes, as well as the 4x100-m relay. She was elected a two-year team captain for Riverbend's track & field program.

"Nia is tough as nails defender who plays the game with passion and toughness," remarked Taylor. "She can impact the game on both ends of the floor with her ability to attack the rim and hit open shots. I love her vocal leadership and willingness to do whatever it takes to win. She competed on the Under Armour Circuit with GTS Fusion which will help her transition to the collegiate level. We are excited to add Nia's competitive nature and winning attitude to our program."
