Women’s Rugby Travels to Frostburg State on Saturday

Annapolis, Md. – The Navy women's rugby team (0-1) faces its first road test of the season as it travels to Frostburg State (1-0) for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday.

The match can be streamed for free with the links provided on navysports.com

"Frostburg State is a newer but solid program. We saw them play some good 7's at the Frostburg 7's tournament last Spring," remarked head coach Murph McCarthy. "We're going to look different this week compared to last as we get to see some opportunities for our younger players."

Hear from Co-Captain Miracle Haynes

Co-captain Miracle Haynes sat down with Pete Medhurst to discuss Navy women's rugby and the upcoming season. Fans can watch the full interview HERE.

Last Time Out: vs. Queens

The Mids fell in their season opener to Queens University of Charlotte by a final score of, 40-7, on Aug. 31.

Navy marched its way into the Royals territory frequently but turnovers from the Mids halted scoring opportunities.

The lone try for Navy came in the 61st minute. The Mids showed their power winning the scrum, from there it was all sophomore Raquel Manadero as she weaved around the defense from half field to register the try.

Manadero Looks to Make an Impact

As a freshman last season, Manadero didn't appear in any 15's matches for Navy. The Newport News, Va., native made her first collegiate debut and start in the season opener against Queens. The sophomore displayed her speed, vision and toughness as she broke off a long run from half field for her first collegiate try in an impressive debut.

Scouting Frostburg State

In last week's season opener against Emory & Henry college, the Bobcats earned a convincing, 39-5 victory.

Frostburg posted a 1-5 record in 15s last season. It was the Bobcats inaugural season competing as a varsity program.

Leading the program is second year head coach Jeff Horton. Horton has a veteran team, returning 14 players from last season and only losing two seniors while adding nine new freshmen to the squad.

Series History

It will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.

Up Next

Navy will be back on the road next Saturday against Mount St. Mary's. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 10 a.m.
