BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Navy track and field teams claimed four of the six Patriot League Weekly Awards announced by the league on Tuesday.
Tyler Yurich received the men's track athlete-of-the-week accolade for the first time in his career. In the 104-75 dual meet loss to Princeton, the junior posted a career-best time of 21.66 to win the 200m dash for five team points. The Harmony, Pa., native career day continued in the 60m sprint with a personal-best time of 6.93 to take fifth.
Sami Bollinger garnered the women's field athlete-of-the-week honor after winning the triple jump event with a leap of 11.89m (39' 0.25") against the Tigers last Saturday. Her triple jump mark leads the Patriot League this season. Bollinger was .03m shy of tying her career-best mark in the long jump (5.66m / 18' 7") as she placed third with a distance of 5.63m (18' 5.75").
Brian Schloeder was named the men's rookie-of-the-week for his performance against Princeton in the pole vault. The freshman won his first collegiate event with a height of 4.95m (16' 2.75") to secure five team points.
Bennett Pidro received the women's rookie-of-the-week award for her career day against the Tigers. Pidro clocked in the fastest 60m sprint (7.90) and the 60m hurdle (9.09) times in her career to take fifth in each event. She also set a new personal-best mark in the long jump of 5.58m (18' 3.75") to claim sixth.
The Mids will conclude their homestand with the Wesley Brown Invitational next Friday and Saturday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md.
