Barnett-Gay Earns Third Patriot League Player of the Week Nod in '24-25

Sophomore guard averaged 23.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists as Mids went 2-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The outstanding sophomore campaign of Zanai Barnett-Gay has continued on as on Monday she picked up her third Patriot League Player of the Week honor of the 2024-25 season. The Glenn Dale, Maryland native received the award in recognition of her success versus American and Lafayette this past week.

The stellar start to Barnett-Gay's collegiate career added two more double-digit scoring efforts with outings of 26 and 20 points at American and Lafayette, respectively this week. With those two games she has now scored 10 or more points in all 43 games of her career; in total, she's amassed 801 cumulative points for an 18.6 points per game average. In addition to scoring 20 or more points in both Navy wins this past week, the sophomore guard filled up the box score with well-rounded averages of 6.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.5 steals, while shooting 51.5% from the field, 90% from the foul line and only turning the ball over three total times over 70-plus minutes of action. Bolstered by her performance, the Mids are 2-0 in Patriot League play for the first time since 2013-14.

This is Barnett-Gay's 12th career Patriot League weekly honor as she has now been selected as the conference's player of the week five times, after collecting seven rookie of the week nods in 2023-24 as part of her Patriot League Rookie of the Year campaign. Already the first player in program history to reach double-digit weekly honors, she moves into a tie with Adria Schneck for the most Patriot League Player of the Week awards in a career by a Midshipman. Schneck collected five total over the 1994-95, 1995-96 and 1996-97 seasons.

Navy will look to extend its run of undefeated Patriot League play this Wednesday evening with a home showdown versus Holy Cross. The Mids and Crusaders are two of the four teams in the conference that completed the first week of action with spotless 2-0 records. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
