10/11/2025 3:56:00 PM

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Navy men's swimming and diving team recorded victories in all but one of the 16 events as it posted wins over William & Mary and UMBC, Saturday at the Retriever Aquatic Center in Baltimore.  The Mids (2-0) won a 192-93 decision over the Tribe (0-2) and a 190-101 meet over the Retrievers (2-1).

The Navy women's team split meets against the two schools as the Mids (1-1) defeated UMBC (0-3), 236-63, and lost to William & Mary (2-0), 169-124.  Highlighting the efforts for the Navy women was Mackenzie Kim as she won both diving boards.

"The team did a terrific job of opening the official season today," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts. "I was really impressed with how they put together each of their races throughout the meet.  I thought they walked up to the blocks ready to go with a plan in mind of how they were going to execute their races.  And as mentioned, they did a really good job of being able to do that throughout the entire meet.  It was fun to see this team in action and feel that today was a great reflection of a lot of hard work so far this fall."

"A big thanks to UMBC for hosting this meet," said Navy women's swimming head coach John Morrison.  "We were pleased to be a part of their homecoming event.

"We competed pretty well in a very challenging environment coming off a tough week of training.  We were extremely proud of the team's resilience and fight to the end, and are looking forward to bringing the lessons learned into training next week."

The Navy men opened and closed the meet by winning first the 200 medley relay and then the 400 free relay.  In between, 10 different Mids won an individual event with Chase Maier, Juan Mora and Anthony Sciulli each winning a pair.  Maier won the 1000 free in a time of 9:23.08 and later posted a 4:34.22 to win the 500 free.  Mora swept the two breaststroke races with times of 55.51 in the 100 and 2:02.57 in the 200.  Sciulli placed first on the three-meter board with a score of 278.35 and won the one-meter event with a tally of 286.35 points.

Additional event wins by the Mids came from Xavier Sohoivic, 200 free (1:39.91); Luke Lamb, 100 back (49.54); Tyler Kaminsky, 200 fly (1:52.44); Andrew Lachlan, 50 free (20.79); Preston Kessler, 100 free (45.99); Will De La Garza, 200 back (1:51.48); and Coleman Yates, 200 IM (1:52.15).

Kim tallied 256.13 points to win the one-meter board and 258.38 points to place first in the three-meter event.

Navy swimmers placed second overall in nine of the 12 individual events.  Two of those finishes came from Allie Maloney as she earned the silver medal in both the 200 fly (2:07.53) and 200 back (2:06.12) events.  Other second-place swimmers included Sarah Eldridge, 1000 free (10:34.19); Erin Miller, 200 free (1:55.03); Ela Habjan, 100 back (56.70); Corinne Warriner, 100 breast (1:04.34); Kaitlyn Landers, 100 free (52.57); Marley Barnard, 200 breast (2:20.98); and Lauren Walsh, 200 IM (2:08.46).  Navy also placed second in the 400 free relay, while Claire Ellish finished second behind Kim on the one-meter board (234.15) and Lily Barrett placed second to Kim in the three-meter competition (242.03).
