Meet Scoring
Only the first seven runners on an institution's team may be used in determining scoring places (sixth and seventh team finishers displace, but do not score). A score shall be established by totaling the final scoring place finish of an institution's first five runners to finish the race. The team scoring the lowest number of points wins. If two or more competitors are judged as having tied for a place, points for the places involved shall be divided equally between these competitors. Ties in team scoring shall be broken by comparing in order the place finish of each of the five winning scoring members of the tied teams. The team with the majority of winning comparisons shall be awarded the higher place.

Series
WOMEN:
Saturday's race will be the 40th Army-Navy Star Meet between the two rivals. All-time, the Mids lead the series 23-16. Navy has won 12 of the last 19 matchups dating back to 2006.

Last season, Navy dropped a 20-35 decision to Army at the USNA Cross Country Course. Alex Wercinski led a group of five Midshipmen that finished in the top 10 in the 6K race. Led by Charlotte Richman, Army used a pack finish in the front to claim the top four spots in the race to claim the victory. The Mids were led by Wercinski, who finished fifth. She was followed closely by Sophie Compton, who took sixth place overall. Mia-Claire Kezal claimed seventh. Olivia Lutkevich and May McConkey were eighth and ninth, respectively.

Head coach Kim Lewnes will be leading the Mids for seventh time in this rivalry with a pair of Star wins to her credit (2021, '22).

MEN: Saturday will mark the 88th Star Meet in the history of the Army-Navy men's cross country rivalry. All-time Navy leads 55-31-1. After a dominant stretch from 2009 through 2016 that saw the Mids win seven of eight meets, the Black Knights closed the gap in the all-time series with back-to-back wins in 2017 and 2018. Navy got back to its winning ways in October of 2019 to captured the 50th victory in the series. The Mids have won six consecutive races in the series.

Last year, led by Murphy Smith, who set the USNA Cross Country Course record with a time of 23:25.8, Navy posted a dominant 18-45 victory over Army. The Midshipmen placed nine runners in the top 10 to run away with the 4.9-mile event. Justin Mumford was in second place with the second-fastest time among Navy runners at the USNA Cross Country Course behind Smith.

The lone Army runner to finish in the top 10 was Nathan Davis who finished third. However, Alexander Kirkland, Jackson Nguyen, Patrick Gandini, Dane Eike, Luke Nester, James Partlow, and Matt Newell shut the door on the Black Knights, finishing fourth through 10th.

This is the eighth Army-Navy meet that Lanzel will be participating in as a head coach (6-1 record). As a student-athlete from 1999-02, Lanzel went 4-0 in Star Meets.

Up Next
Saturday's competition marks the conclusion of Navy's regular season as both teams will turn their attention to action at the 2025 Patriot League Championship on Friday, October 31.
