ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Justin Mumford continues his stellar senior campaign this Saturday with action at the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championship at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Mo. The NCAA meet will be broadcast live on ESPNU and called by John Anderson and Carrie Tollefson. The women's 6K will start at 10:20 a.m. (ET) followed by Mumford running in the men's 10K at 11:10 a.m. (ET). Awards will be streamed live on WatchESPN and the ESPN app beginning at 12:00 p.m.
Mumford qualified for the NCAA Championship with a third-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship. Hosted by Lehigh University and run over the 10K Goodman Campus Cross Country Course, Mumford helped Navy finish fifth as a team among the 28 teams that competed.
His third-place finish tied
Murphy Smith's performance during the 2023 season as the highest by a Navy individual since Jake Brophy ('20) finished second at the 2019 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional as a senior. For his efforts, Mumford was named All-Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Mumford clocked a 10K time of 29:28.9 to finish third overall among the 197 runners who finished the race. He was in fifth through the first mile and moved up to third at the two-mile checkpoint. By the 5K marker, the senior had moved into first place and remained in the top spot through the 8K checkpoint. Mumford was passed by individual medalist Birhanu Harriman (29:20.6) of Georgetown and Myles Hogan (29:21.2) of Princeton over the final 2000m, but was able to secure an automatic bid as an individual.
This season, Mumford has been Navy's top finisher in all five races he competed in, including the Gans Creek Classic in September on the NCAA Championship course where he finished 58th among the 239 competitors.
