Opening Kick
•    RV / RV Navy (8-2, 6-1 in the American) and Memphis (8-3, 4-3) will meet on the gridiron for the 11th time, all as American Conference foes, when the two square off on Thanksgiving night (7:30 pm ET, 6:30 pm CT) at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium (56,862) in Memphis.
•    Since joining the American Conference in 2015, the Mids and Tigers have met every year. Navy won last year's game in a wild affair in Annapolis 56-44. Navy has not beaten Memphis in Memphis since 2015 (lost 4 straight), which was the Mids' first year in the American. Navy's last win in Memphis came in the 2019 Liberty Bowl when the Mids beat Kansas State 20-17 to cap an 11-2 season.
•    Thursday will mark Navy's first game played on Thanksgiving since Nov. 24, 1898, when the Mids defeated VMI 21-5 in the snow in Annapolis. Navy is 4-3 all-time on Thanksgiving Day with all 7 games taking place between 1883 and 1898.
•    Navy is currently in a 3-way tie for first place with Tulane and North Texas in the American Conference with 1 game remaining.
•     A win by Navy over Memphis would clinch at least a tie for 1st in the regular-season standings.
•    If Tulane, which was the only American Conference team ranked in the CFP rankings last week (ranked #24), stays as the top-ranked American team in the CFP this week and if it beats Charlotte on Saturday, the Green Wave will host the American Conference Championship Game.
•     North Texas would hold the tiebreaker over the Mids based on its 31-17 victory in Denton over the Mids Nov. 1, even if Navy was ranked higher than North Texas in the CFP because it would revert back to a two-team tie. Head-to-head result is the first tiebreaker.
•     For Navy to make the championship, the Mids would need to be ranked higher than both North Texas and Tulane in  Tuesday's CFP rankings and defeat Memphis on Thursday ... or ... if Navy is not ranked higher than both North Texas and Tulane, then either Tulane (vs. Charlotte) or North Texas (vs. Temple) would need to lose this weekend as well as Navy beating Memphis.
•     If East Carolina and / or South Florida both win this weekend and 2 or 3 of Navy, Temple and North Texas all lose,  then it would be either a 3, 4 or 5-way tie and it would come down to computer rankings for both or one of the spots since not everybody played each other.
•    The 5 teams with 1 or 2 losses and their Composite Computer Ranking (CCR) to date: North Texas (CCR 20.25), USF (CCR 24.0), Tulane (CCR 33.75), Navy (CCR 47.5) and East Carolina (CCR 50.0).
•    The top-2 teams in the American Conference will play in the American Conference Championship Game on Friday, Dec. 5 at 8:00 pm at the home of the No. 1 seed. The game will be broadcast nationally by ABC.
•    Navy is coming off a 41-38 win over #24 USF on Senior Day in Annapolis. It was Navy's 3rd win over a ranked opponent in the last 2 years.  Last year, Navy defeated #19 / #22 Army (31-13) and RV / #22 Memphis (56-44).
•    It is the first time Navy has beaten 3 ranked opponents over a 2-year span since 1957-58 when the Mids beat #5 / #5 Notre Dame (20-6) and #10 / #9 Army (14-0) in 1957 and #8 / #7 Rice (20-7) and #14 / #12 Michigan (20-14) in 1958.
•    Navy's 2 losses have come against teams with a combined record of 19-3 (North Texas is 10-1, Notre Dame is 9-2). The Mids held North Texas to 31 points, the fewest its has scored this season.
•    Navy finished 6-0 at home this year. It is just the 6th time in school history Navy has gone undefeated at home in years it has played 5 or more home games. The Mids also completed the season undefeated at home in 2019 (6-0), 2015 (7-0), 2013 (5-0), 2004 (6-0) and 1981 (5-0). Navy is now 13-3 (.813) at home under Brian Newberry.
•    Navy's Class of 2026 has put together a 27-20 (.575) record, including a 20-11 (.645) mark in the American.
•    The 27 wins are the most by a senior class since the Class of 2020 posted a 30-23 (.566) mark, including a 20-12 (.625) record in the American. A win Thursday over Memphis would give the Class of 2026 the most conference wins of any other class, while this year's seniors can tie the Class of 2020 in wins with 3 more victories.
•    The Mids need 2 more wins to reach 10 for the season and mark the 1st time in school history that Navy has had back-to-back 10-win seasons. The Mids need 3 more wins to tie the school record for wins (11 in 2019 and 2015).
•    With a win over Army on Dec. 13, Navy would win the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy in back-to-back years for the 1st time since 2012-13.
•    Navy has won 78-consecutive games at home when leading after 3 quarters, the nation's longest streak. The last time Navy lost at home when leading after 3 quarters was Oct. 23, 1999, when the Mids led Akron 29-13 and lost 35-29.
•    Navy started the year playing 4 of its first-5 at home. The Mids will finish the season with 4 of their final-5 games played away from Annapolis.
•    Navy became bowl eligible with a thrilling 32-31 win over Temple on Oct. 11. Navy has played in 25 bowl games all-time, including last year's 21-20 win over Oklahoma in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas. Navy owns a 13-11-1 record in bowl games, winning 6 of the last 7.
•    Navy owns a 756-605-57 (.553) record over 145 seasons. The 756 wins are the 23rd most in FBS history, the most of any Service Academy and the most of any team not in the Autonomy 4. The Mids are just 1 win behind Syracuse for 22nd.
•    Brian Newberry started his head coaching career at Navy with a 20-10 record, which is the best 30-game start by a Navy head coach since Wayne Hardin went 20-9-1 from 1959-61. Ken Niumatalolo, the winningest head coach in school history, started his first-30 games at Navy with a 19-11 record. Newberry is currently 23-12 as a head coach.
•    Newberry has been named a semifinalist for Munger National Coach of the Year Award.
•    The Mids lead the FBS in rushing, averaging 308.2 yards per game.
•    Navy's 35 rushing touchdowns are 3rd in the FBS behind North Texas (40) and Utah (37). Memphis and Notre Dame are tied for 4th with 34.
•    Navy also leads the FBS in yards per carry, averaging 6.39 yards per rush.
•    Navy is 2nd in the country in passing yards per completion, averaging 16.5 yards per catch. Air Force is 1st at 17.6.
•    Navy has had a nation's-best 10 offensive plays go for 60 yards or more, including 3 in its last game against USF.
•    The Mids have had 4 plays of 70 yards or more, which is tied for the 4th most in the country with 5 other teams.
•    The Mids have had 13 plays of 50 yards or more, which is tied with Old Dominion, USF and Wake Forest for the 3rd most in the FBS.
•    Navy has given up just 3.0 tackles for loss per game, which is 2nd only to Texas A&M for the fewest allowed in the country.
•    The Mids are tied with Ohio State for the 3rd-fewest sacks allowed with 6. Navy's offensive line was on the Midseason Watch List for the Joe Moore Award, which is given to the nation's best offensive line.
•    Navy's 21 first-time starters this year are the 4th most in the country.
•    Blake Horvath (Sr. / QB) is a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, also known as the Academic Heisman. The 16 finalists will each receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship while the winner will have his scholarship bumped up to $25,000. Horvath carries a 3.69 grade-point average and earned a perfect 4.0 in both semesters of his junior year. He is the 11th Navy player to be named a finalist and the 1st since Cameron Kinley in 2020.  Other former Navy football players that were named finalists include E.K. Binns (2015), John Dowd (2011), Terrence Anderson (1999), Carl Voss (1991), Ted Dumbauld (1980), Tim Harden (1974), Daniel Pike (1969), Allen Roodhouse (1965) and Joe Ince (1963). Navy has never had a player win the Campbell Trophy.
•    Horvath was informed on Nov. 21 by the Heisman Trophy Trust that he is a potential Heisman Trophy finalist.
•    Horvath has also been named a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year award and the Davey O'Brien Quarterback of the Year.
•    Dating back to the 2023 season, Navy is 18-4 when Blake Horvath starts at quarterback.
•    Horvath needs just 14 yards rushing to become the first quarterback in school history to rush and throw for 1,000 yards or more in back-to-back seasons. Navy great Keenan Reynolds also did it twice (2013 and 2015), but didn't do it in back-to-back seasons. Ricky Dobbs came up 33 rushing yards short in 2010 of doing it in back-to-back seasons.
•    Horvath has thrown just 9 interceptions in 273-career attempts for an interception percentage of .033 per attempt. That is tied for the 3rd-best mark in school history. The Navy record is .017 set by current Navy radio analyst Keenan Reynolds, who threw just 8 interceptions in 462-career attempts.
•    Horvath's 164.5 career pass efficiency rating is the highest of any quarterback in Service Academy history with 150 or more attempts. Dating back to 1956, he is 1 of just 34 quarterbacks in the FBS to have a career passing efficiency of 164.0 or better with 250 or more passing attempts. Horvath is 30th on that list between Bryce Young of Alabama (29th) and Alex Smith of Utah (31st).
•    Horvath's average of 8.0 yards of total offense per play (5,152 yards on 644 plays) over his career is the 2nd-best mark in school history. Shun White holds the record at 8.9 (2005-08).
•    Horvath is averaging 16.8 yards per completion in his career (162 comp / 2,727 yds), which is the 4th-best average in school history. The record is 18.8 set by Ricky Dobbs (2008-10).
•    Horvath's 23-career passing touchdowns are tied with Jim Kubiak for the 5th most in school history.
•    Horvath's 469 yards of total offense (130 yds rush, 339 yds pass) in Navy's win against Air Force broke the school record. The previous record was 428 yards set by Will Worth in a loss at USF in 2016. Horvath is the 1st quarterback in the FBS to throw for 330 yards or more with 3 or more touchdowns and rush for 130 or more yards with 1 or more touchdowns in a game since LSU's Jayden Daniels against Florida in 2023.
•    Horvath's 82 yard pass to Eli Heidenreich (Sr. / Snipe) was the 6th-longest pass in school history and the longest since Ricky Dobbs hit Greg Jones with an 85-yard pass against Arkansas State in 2010.
•    Horvath had rushed for over 100 yards in 6-straight games before being held to 60 yards on 21 carries against USF. He is the 1st Navy player to accomplish that feat since Malcolm Perry had 10-consecutive 100-yard rushing games in 2019.
•    Horvath and Malcolm Perry (2016-19) are the only players in school history to have multiple runs of 90 yards or more in a career.
•    Horvath's 13 rushing touchdowns this fall are tied for the 11th most in the FBS and the 3rd most for a quarterback.
•    Horvath is averaging 109.6 rushing yards per game this year, which ranks 5th nationally and 1st among quarterbacks.
•    Horvath is averaging 8.1 yards of total offense per play this year, which is tied for the 4th best in school history. The record is 8.5 set by Malcolm Perry in 2017.
•    Horvath is averaging 17.0 yards per completion in 2025, the 4th-best average in school history. It would lead the FBS if he had enough attempts to qualify.
•    Horvath's 164.6 pass efficiency this year is the 4th best in school history. It would rank 8th in the FBS if he had enough attempts to qualifty.
•    Heidenreich was invited to the East-West Shrine Game on Oct. 29. Heidenreich is the 35th Navy football player to be selected to the game and the first since linebacker Diego Fagot in 2021, who earned defensive MVP honors. Heidenreich is the first Navy player from the offensive side of the ball to be selected since Malcolm Perry in 2019 and the first non-quarterback since wide receiver Brandon Turner in 2012.
•    Heidenreich is 6th in the FBS in yards per reception, averaging 19.5 yards per catch.
•    Heidenreich's 14-career receiving touchdowns are the most in school history.
•    Heidenreich's 1,794-career receiving yards are the most in school history.
•    Heidenreich's 741 receiving yards this year are the 2nd most in school history. He trails record holder Rob Taylor (818 yds in 1967) by 77 yards.
•    Heidenreich had a career-high 8 catches for a school-record 243 yards and a school-record tying 3 touchdown catches in Navy's win over Air Force. He is the 1st Navy player in school history to surpass 200 yards receiving in a game. The previous record was 194 yards by Cory Schemm in the 1996 Aloha Bowl against Cal.
•    Either Heidenreich or Alex Tecza (Sr. / RB), Navy's dynamic duo from Pittsburgh who grew up as childhood friends, have scored a touchdown for Navy in 25 of their 33-career games (they have scored in the same game 8 times, including the first-3 games in 2025). Heidenreich has 21-career touchdowns (7 rush, 14 rec), while Tecza has 23 (20 rush, 3 rec). Remarkably, they each score the same number of touchdowns as high school teammates (29).  Both made their first-career start at Memphis in 2023.
•    Heidenreich is ranked as the 3rd-best running back in the FBS with a grade of 92.1 (PFF has Heidenreich listed as a fullback, which he is most definitely not) and his receiving grade of 92.9 is the best of any running back or wide receiver.  Tecza is the 8th-ranked pass catching running back per PFF with a grade of 82.16.
•    Landon Robinson (Sr. / NG) was named 1 of 7 semifinalists for the Outland Trophy on Nov. 19. He was 1 of only 2 defensive linemen to be named.
•    The semifinalists will be paired to three finalists on Tues., Nov. 25. The recipient of the 2025 Outland Trophy will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards, live on ESPN on Dec. 12. The official presentation to the winner will be made at the Outland Trophy Awards Dinner sponsored by Werner Enterprises and produced by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee in Omaha, Neb., on Jan. 21, 2026.
•    The field for the 2025 Outland Trophy includes offensive tackle Spencer Fano of Utah; center Logan Jones of Iowa; offensive tackle Iapani Laloulu of Oregon; defensive tackle Kayden McDonald of Ohio State; offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor of Alabama; defensive tackle Landon Robinson of Navy; and offensive tackle Carter Smith of Indiana.
•    Pro Football Focus ranks Landon Robinson (Sr. / NG) as the  5th-best pass-rushing interior defensive lineman by PFF with a grade of 83.6. Robinson was also named a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award, which is given to the nation's most outstanding defensive player.
•    Coleman Cauley's (Jr. / LB) 3 forced fumbles are tied for the 8th most in the FBS.
•    Braxton Woodson's (Jr. / QB) 180 yards rushing on 7 carries against VMI are the most yards rushing on 7 carries or less in an FBS game since LSU's Clyde Edwards-Helaire ran for 188 yards on 6 carries against Arkansas on Nov. 23, 2019 in a 56-20 LSU win.
• Woodson came off the bench in the 3rd quarter against USF and led Navy on 2 scoring drives to seal the upset win.  Woodson finished with 103 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns on 9 carries.  He had touchdown runs of 20 and 64 yards.
•    Jackson Gutierrez (So. / QB-RB) is listed on the depth chart at 2 different positions. He is the only player in the FBS to be listed on the 3-deep depth chart at quarterback and another position. Gutierrez is currently getting snaps as the 2nd-team running back, while serving as the 3rd-team quarterback. Gutierrez played quarterback against Notre Dame.
•    Ira Oniha (Jr. / CB) broke up 3 passes in Navy's win over Tulsa, which is tied for the 2nd most at Navy in the last 20 years.  He also had 3 PBUs against Temple.
•    Malcolm Johnson (Fr. / OT) became the first freshman to start on the offensive line at Navy against FAU since Duncan Cave started at center against SMU in 1997.

Senior Salute
•    Navy's Class of 2026 has put together a 27-20 (.575) record, including a 20-11 (.645) mark in the American.
•    The 27 wins are the most by a senior class since the Class of 2020 posted a 30-23 (.566) mark, including a 20-12 (.625) record in the American. A win Thursday over Memphis would give the Class of 2026 the most conference wins of any other class.
•    The Mids need 2 more wins to reach 10 for the season and mark the 1st time in school history that Navy had back-to-back 10-win seasons.  The Mids need 3 more wins to tie the school record for wins (11 in 2019 and 2015).
•    With a win over Army on Dec. 13, Navy would win the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy in back-to-back years for the 1st time since 2012-13.
•    Navy's 28 seniors received their service assignments on Nov. 20.

Remembering Chuck Sullivan
•    The American Conference and Navy Athletics mourn the heart-breaking loss of assistant commissioner of communications Chuck Sullivan, who passed away Nov. 15 after a long battle with melanoma. Sullivan was 54 years old.
•    One of the most well-respected communications professionals in collegiate athletics, Sullivan first joined the conference staff in August of 2007 as the Big East Conference's director of communications. After the American's reconstitution in 2013, he was promoted to assistant commissioner for communications in January of 2015 and has overseen the communications and external operations for the American and its 20 Division I sports. In addition to supporting the promotion of the American's student-athletes and sports, Sullivan supervised and mentored dozens of communications and external relations professionals over his time with the conference office and previously at the institution level.

Tracking the American Conference Race
•     A win by Navy over Memphis would clinch at least a tie for first in the regular season standings.
•    If Tulane, which was the only American Conference team ranked in the CFP rankings last week (ranked #24), stays as the top ranked American team in the CFP this week and if they beat Charlotte on Saturday they will host the American Conference Championship Game.
•     North Texas, who beat Navy 31-17 in Denton on Nov.1, would hold the tiebreaker over Navy based on head-to-head even if Navy was ranked higher than North Texas in the CFP because it would revert back to a two-team tie, which head-to-head is the first tiebreaker.
•     For Navy to control its own destiny it has to hope they are ranked higher than both North Texas and Tulane in the Tuesday CFP rankings and would then still have to beat Memphis on Thursday. If Navy is not ranked higher than both North Texas and Tulane then the Mids will need either Tulane or North Texas (vs. Temple) to lose this weekend as well as Navy beat Memphis.
•     If East Carolina and / or South Florida both win this weekend and two or three of Navy, Temple and North Texas all lose then it would be either a three, four or five-way tie and it would come down to computer rankings for both or one of the spots since not everybody played each other.
•    The top-2 teams in the American Conference will play in the American Conference Championship Game on Friday, Dec. 5 at 8:00 pm at the home of the No. 1 seed. The game will be broadcast nationally by ABC.
•    The 5 teams with 1 or 2 losses and their Composite Computer Ranking (the next tiebreaker after head-to-head and being ranked in the CFP): North Texas (CCR 20.25), USF (CCR 24.0), Tulane (CCR 33.75), Navy (CCR 47.5) and East Carolina (CCR 50.0).

10.5 TWO-TEAM TIE
•    10.5.1 If there is a two-team tie for first place, both teams will play in the championship game.
•    10.5.2 If there is a two-team tie for second place, the head-to-head result shall determine the championship game participant.
•    10.5.3 If there is no head-to-head result, and one of the tied teams was ranked in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings and doesn't lose in the final weekend of regular-season conference play, it will be declared a championship game participant.
•    10.5.4 If there is no head-to-head result, and one of the tied teams was ranked in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings and loses in the final weekend of regular-season conference play, then a composite average of selected computer metrics (Connolly SP+, SportSource TR116 SOR, ESPN SOR, KPI) will be used to determine the championship game participant.
•    10.5.5 If there is no head-to-head result, and both tied teams are ranked in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings, the higher-ranked tied team that doesn't lose in the final weekend of the conference regular season will be a championship game participant.
•    10.5.6 If there is no head-to-head result, and neither of the tied ranked teams wins in the final weekend of the conference regular season, a composite average of selected computer metrics (Connolly SP+, SportSource TR116 SOR, ESPN SOR, KPI) after all games concludes the final weekend of the
•    10.5.7 If there is no head-to-head result, and neither of the tied teams is ranked in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings going into the final weekend of the conference regular season, a composite average of selected computer metrics (Connolly SP+, SportSource TR116 SOR, ESPN SOR, KPI) after all teams conclude the final weekend of the conference regular season will be used to determine the championship game participant.
•    10.5.8 If still tied, win percentage against all common conference opponents.
•    10.5.9 If still tied, the team with the highest overall winning percentage (conference and nonconference) excluding exempt games.
•    10.5.10 If still tied, a coin toss will be conducted by the commissioner.

10.6 MULTIPLE TEAM TIE
•    10.6.1 If more than two teams tie for first or second place, the tiebreaker procedures will be applied separately to identify the two participants in the championship game.
•    10.6.2 If only two teams remain tied after any step in the tiebreaking process, the two-team tie procedures shall be used to break the tie.
•    10.6.3 The conference records of the tied teams are compared in a mini round-robin format. If within the mini round-robin, any of the tied teams did not play each other, the group of teams shall remain tied unless one team defeated all other tied teams.
•    10.6.4 If the highest-ranked of the tied teams in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings doesn't lose in the final weekend of regular-season conference play, it will be declared a championship game participant.
•    10.6.5 If the highest-ranked of the tied teams in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings loses in the final weekend of regular-season conference play, then a composite average of selected computer metrics (Connolly SP+, SportSource TR116 SOR, ESPN SOR, KPI) will be used to determine the championship game participants.
•    10.6.6 If there are multiple tied teams ranked in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings, the highest-ranked team or teams that win in the final weekend of the conference regular season will be championship game participants.
•    10.6.7 If none of the ranked tied teams win in the final weekend of the conference regular season, a composite average of selected computer metrics (Connolly SP+, SportSource TR116 SOR, ESPN SOR, KPI) after all games conclude the final weekend of the conference regular season will be used to determine the championship game participants.
•    10.6.8 If no teams are ranked in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings going into the final weekend of the conference regular season, a composite average of selected computer metrics (Connolly SP+, SportSource TR116 SOR, ESPN SOR, KPI) after all games conclude the final weekend of the conference regular season will be used to break a tie and determine the championship game participants.
•    10.6.9 If still tied, win percentage against all common conference opponents.
•    10.6.10 If still tied, the team with the highest overall winning percentage (conference and nonconference) excluding exempt games.
•    10.6.11 Drawing to be conducted by the Commissioner

Scouting Memphis
