ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's tennis team (2-4) is set for an action-packed two days at the Tose Family Tennis Center this weekend, as the Midshipmen host Virginia Tech (5-1) in a 4 p.m. meeting on Saturday afternoon before turning around for a Sunday doubleheader, squaring off with Villanova (2-3) at 10 a.m. and Delaware (2-3) at 2 p.m.
Last Time Out
Navy opened last weekend with a trip to Liberty, dropping a 6-1 match to the Flames, before coming home and suffering a narrow 5-2 loss to George Washington … The Mids' lone point at Liberty came in the form of senior
Emily Tannenbaum's comeback 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 victory over Daniella O'Neill in the top singles spot … In the GW match, Navy claimed the doubles point with wins from senior

Peyton Amspacher-Philemon in the No. 3 spot … Eklund then picked up a commanding 6-2, 6-2 singles victory against Victoria Sasinka to earn Navy's second point of the GW showdown.
Puryear Achieves Navy Milestone
With the doubleheader sweep last Saturday, head coach
Keith Puryear reached the 300-win mark for his Navy tenure … Compiling a 300-101 (.748) record through 17 seasons at the helm of the Mids, Puryear has also posted a 515-233 mark as a women's coach between his time at UMBC and Navy … His 513 victories ranked 20th among Division I women's coaches all-time and 10th among active women's coaches at the DI level entering the spring season.
Mids in the National Rankings
Navy was well-represented in the national singles and doubles rankings put out by the ITA at the end of the fall, appearing three times … Slotted at No. 87 in the singles rankings was senior
Emily Tannenbaum, with the Midshipmen having two doubles teams ranked as well … Tannenbaum and fellow senior
Parvathi Shanker rated 51st on the doubles list, while the pairing of Tannenbaum alongside sophomore

Tannenbaum Rewriting Record Book
Now holding two more spots in the Navy record book after setting the program records for career singles, doubles and combined wins during the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, Tannenbaum holds a total of six school records … Last spring, the then-junior set the program record for single-season singles wins (33) and career No. 1 singles victories (37) while also resetting a pair of program single-season records she had previously set, tallying 18 victories at the No. 1 singles spot and registering 55 combined wins over the course of the campaign.
Scouting Virginia Tech
The Hokies enter Saturday on a five-match winning streak, as a spring-opening loss to Duke has been followed by victories against N.C. Central, East Tennessee State, Indiana, JMU and Delaware … Ozlem Uslu enters the week ranked as the No. 28 singles player in the nation, while Uslu and Charlotte Cartledge are ranked as the 67th doubles team in the country … The Hokies finished last season with a 9-13 record and a 3-10 ACC mark, picking up a first-round win over Louisville in the ACC Tournament before falling to Miami in the second round.
Scouting Villanova
After dropping their first three matches of the season to Penn State, Penn and Delaware, the Wildcats have rebounded with victories against Bucknell and Lehigh … Villanova tallied a 10-13 mark last season, pulling off a win over Seton Hall in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament before dropping the second-round meeting with DePaul.

The Blue Hens got off to a strong start with 7-0 wins over Villanova and Bucknell, but have hit a skid with three-straight losses to Penn, Rutgers and Virginia Tech … Maryia Hrynashka came into the weekend rated as the No. 79 singles player in the country, the highest-rated women's individual in program history, while Cornelia Kack was ranked No. 112 the week prior … A 20-7 record last season with a 6-1 conference tally ended with the Blue Hens dropping the CAA Championship match to William & Mary … Hrynashka was selected as Second Team All-CAA Doubles Third Team All-CAA Singles last year.

Navy is 0-1 in the all-time series with Virginia Tech, falling 6-1 in a 2013 meeting … The Mids hold an 11-0 record all-time against Villanova, with last year's win being a 5-2 decision in Annapolis … Navy is 8-5 when playing Delaware all-time but have lost the last three matchups, dropping a 5-2 battle in Wilmington last spring.
