ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy (11-7, 1-0) men's tennis team began its Patriot League campaign with a 6-1 victory over Colgate (5-4, 0-2), Sunday afternoon at Drumlins Tennis Center in Syracuse, N.Y.

The Mids split their squad on the day and also dropped a 6-1 decision to Delaware (6-4) in Annapolis.

Colgate won the first doubles match to finish, a 6-4 victory at the No. 1 flight.  Navy's No. 3 team of Aniketh Ayinala and J.J. Etterbeek combined for a 6-3 win over Jerome Falcon and Parker McGowan to tie the proceedings.  The Mids won the doubles point when their No. 2 tandem of Herrick Legaspi and Nathan Nguyen defeated Aidan Chung and Tim Viding, 7-5.

Etterbeek followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles over Benjamin Falcon to make the score 2-0.  George Cutone increased the advantage to 3-0 when he defeated Viding, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 6 flight.  Luke Garner clinched the match outcome when he registered a 6-3, 6-2 win over Aidan Lee at No. 3 singles.

Ayinala followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Falcon at No. 5 singles, then Nguyen defeated Josh Israel, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 2 singles in what was the last match of the day.

Delaware won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead at the Tose Family Tennis Center.  The Blue Hens then won the first four singles matches to finish in straight sets to secure the victory.  Navy's win was recorded by Jason Kim who defeated Piotr Siekanwicz, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, at No. 1 singles.

Navy will play host to Morgan State Wednesday, Monmouth Friday morning and Drexel Friday afternoon.
