Women’s Rugby Set to Host the Navy 7s on Sunday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's rugby team will play host to the Navy 7s tournament at the Prusmack Rugby Center on Sunday.

9:20 a.m. – Navy vs. Queens

11:20 a.m. – Navy vs. Long Island

11:40 a.m. – West Chester vs. Princeton

1:00 p.m. – First seed (Pool A) vs. Second seed (Pool B)

1:20 p.m. – Second seed (Pool A) vs. First seed (Pool B)

3:20 p.m. – Finals (top remaining seeds in pool A and B)

Scouting Long Island

·       The Sharks will be competing in their first spring 7s event on Sunday. LIU went 3-1 overall during its 15s season with victories over West Chester (41-20), Northeastern (36-0) and Mount St. Mary's (56-0).

·       LIU is led by second-year head coach Dee Nash.

Scouting Queens

·       Queens will be competing in its second 7s tournament this spring. The Royals last competed at the Warren Wilson 7s.

·       Queens boasted a 4-4 record during the fall season.

·       The Mids and Royals squared off to open the fall season with Queens getting the upper hand over Navy, 40-7.

·       The Royals also recorded victories over Warren Wilson (66-0), Mount St. Mary's (79-7) and Princeton (48-17).

·       Queens finished seventh in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) with a 3-4 league record.

Last Time Out: at Frostbite 7s

The Midshipmen opened their 7s season on March 2 by winning all four of their matches at the Frostbite 7s in Landisville, Pa. The Mids defeated Binghamton 20-5 in their first match of the day before shutting out Virginia 44-0, Stony Brook 31-0 and West Virginia 24-0.

Sophomore Caroline O'Hara led the team with five scored tries over the four matches at the Frostbite 7s. O'Hara Recorded zero tries during the fall 15s season.
