#22 Women’s Lacrosse Set to Host #17 Loyola on National Television

Opening draw between the Mids and the Greyhounds is slated for 6:00 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 22 Navy women's lacrosse team (7-3, 2-0 Patriot League) hosts No. 17 Loyola (6-5, 3-0 Patriot League) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in a nationally-televised game on CBS Sports Network on Wednesday, March 26, at 6:00 p.m. 
 
Additionally, the game will be on the radio, airing on 1430 AM / 99.9 FM WNAV. The radio broadcast is also available on wnav.com and on WNAV on the Audacy app. Live stats will be available.
 
On Wednesday night, the Midshipmen are looking for their 250th win in program history. Navy enters the game with a 249-78 overall record. In addition, a win over Loyola would be Navy's 100th regular season Patriot League win. The Mids are 99-24 in regular season conference games heading into the week.
 
All-Time Series
The game marks the 19th meeting between the two teams in women's lacrosse. Loyola holds a 15-3 advantage in the series.
 
Since joining the Patriot League for the 2014 season, Loyola is 105-3 (.972) against Patriot League opponents including an unblemished 87-0 record in regular-season conference contests. Navy is the ONLY Patriot League school to defeat Loyola, besting the Greyhounds in the conference tournament twice (2017, '18) and NCAA Tournament once (2018). All three victories for Navy occurred at Loyola.
 
The Greyhounds are currently on a 54-game winning streak against Patriot League opponents including both regular season and postseason games.
 
The Midshipmen picked up a win over Loyola in the 2017 PL Championship (W, 15-5), snapping the Greyhounds' 41-game winning streak against conference opponents.
 
The Mids followed the 2017 PL Championship win with a second consecutive conference title win in 2018 (W, 17-10), while also defeating the Greyhounds in the second round of the NCAA Tournament (W, 19-15) the same year.
 
The Greyhounds have won the last eight games in the series, including a 12-11 overtime decision in Baltimore in the championship game of the 2024 Patriot League Tournament.
 
Loyola head coach Jen Adams (Maryland '01) played collegiate lacrosse at the University of Maryland for current Navy head coach Cindy Timchal. Under Timchal's direction, Adams and the Terrapins went 83-4 (.954) in four seasons with two perfect seasons and four National Championships. Adams was the first recipient of the Tewaaraton Trophy in 2001.
 
Scouting the Midshipmen
Led by five-goal performances by freshman Alyssa Chung and sophomore Mikayla Williams, Navy improved to 2-0 in the Patriot League with a 17-6 road win over Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa.
 
As a team, the Midshipmen have tallied 147 goals with 63 assists, while picking up 168 ground balls, winning 159 draw controls, and causing 75 turnovers.
 
Entering the week, Emily Messinese leads the team with 42 points on a team-high 27 goals and a team-best 15 assists. The senior team captain opened conference play, tying a career-high in goals (5) and points (7) to give Messinese her sixth hat trick of the year. She has 30 hat tricks, which is the eighth-most in program history and is one behind Jasmine DePompeo ('13) for seventh.
 
Messinese is followed by Chung and Williams who have 31 and 29 points, respectively. Chung tied with Messinese with 27 goals, while adding four assists for her 31 points. Most recently, the freshman posted a career-best five goals with two assists for a season-best seven points at Bucknell. Williams has 22 goals and seven helpers for her 29 points, scoring at least one goal in every game this season with six multi-goal games, including three hat tricks. Last time out, Williams set a new personal best with five goals against the Bison.
 
Emma Kennedy and Ava Yovino close out Navy's 20-point scorers. Kennedy has 24 points on 20 goals and four helpers, while Yovino has a balanced 20 points on 10 goals and 10 assists.
 
Taylor Miles, Tori DiCarlo, and Maggie DeFabio round out Navy's double-digit point scorers. Miles has 17 points on a balanced nine goals and eight assists. DiCarlo adds 12 goals and four assists for 16 points, while DeFabio is four points back with 12 points on five goals and seven helpers.
 
Seven additional Midshipmen have registered points during the season. Lola Leone (4g 1a) has five points, while Kat McAteer and Maura Murphy are tied with three points apiece, each netting three goals on the year. Chloe Brown and Caroline Gage have two points on a pair of goals each, while Bella Paradiso has two points on a couple of assists. Anna Gotterup closes out Navy's point scorers with one point on an assist.
 
Defensively, Navy has caused 75 of its opponents 136 turnovers (55.1 percent), including 26 unsuccessful clear attempts. Jaclyn Johns leads the team with 12 caused turnovers. Felicia Giglio and DeFabio follow with 11 and 10 takeaways. Yovino adds eight caused turnovers, while Chung and Grace Peterson have six apiece. Williams adds five caused turnovers with Jenkins and Messinese registering four takeaways each.
 
Giglio leads the team with 27 ground balls with Yovino following with 23 GB. DeFabio, Peterson, and Williams follow with 18, 14, and 13, congruently. Johns has won 11 ground balls with Messinese rounding out the Mids' double-digit ground balls with 10.
 
Giglio has notched 76 saves in 579 minutes of action, while adding 11 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls. The sophomore goalkeeper has five double-digit save performances, including three against ranked opponents – 10 at No. 7 Loyola (2024); 10 at No. 11 Virginia (2025); and 11 at No. 6 Florida (2025). Four of Giglio's five double-digit save performances have come in the last seven games she has played.
 
Alyssa Daley leads all players with 85 draw victories. With her 10 draw wins earlier in the year against Harvard, Daley topped the 300-draw plateau, becoming the third player in program history with 300 or more draw controls. She joined Loren Generi ('15) and Reagan Roelofs ('22) who had 493 and 390, respectively. Daley currently has 353 career draws, which is 37 back of Roelofs.
 
Messinese has chipped in 33 draw controls while Williams has won 24 draws.
 
Scouting the Opposition
Following a 20-9 victory over Colgate, Loyola is 6-5 overall and 3-0 in the Patriot League. The Greyhounds enter the game 1-5 this season against nationally-ranked opponents.
 
Loyola is led by Georgia Latch and Chase Boyle. Latch leads the squad with 56 points on 22 goals and a team-best 34 assists, while Boyle is second on the team with 44 points on a team-high 41 goals and three helpers.
 
Lily Osborne leads Loyola with 16 caused turnovers with Boyle and Mim Suares-Jury following with 13 apiece. Lauren Spence paces the Greyhounds with 25 ground balls, followed by Osborne (18) and Suares-Jury (17). Boyle has a team high 106 draw controls, while Osborne and Latch follow with 52 and 42 draws, respectively.
 
Spence has logged a majority of minutes between the posts at goal for Loyola. She has 98 saves with 114 goals allowed for a 46.2 save percentage and a 10.94 goals against average. Additionally, she has picked up 18 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers.
 
Chung Repeats as Patriot League Rookie of the Week
The Patriot League announced its weekly women's lacrosse award winners and Navy freshman Alyssa Chung was selected as the Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week. It is the third time this season that the freshman has earned the honor.
 
Chung helped lead Navy to a 17-6 road victory over Bucknell on Saturday. She posted a team-high and new career-best seven points on five goals (game and career high) with a pair of assists. Additionally, the freshman caused a turnover.
 
She opened the game with a behind-the-back goal to give the Midshipmen a 1-0 lead. Chung added two additional first-quarter goals to complete her sixth hat trick of the season (10 games total). She added two more scores to close out the first half, giving her five goals in the game. The rookie added a pair of assists on Mikayla Williams goals.
 
In two Patriot League games, Chung has a team-high 12 points on a team-best 10 goals with two assists.
 
National Rankings
The Navy women's lacrosse team is currently ranked in two of the three national polls. The Midshipmen are No. 22 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll rankings this week, while coming in at No. 25 in the Inside Lacrosse Media poll. Additionally, the Mids are receiving votes according to USA Lacrosse.
 
In its history, Navy has been ranked 100 total weeks, including a stretch of 46 weeks from the final poll of 2017 (May 30) to April 5, 2021. The Mids' first appearance in the national rankings came on March 11, 2013, coming in at #20. The Midshipmen's highest ranking – sixth – came in the final polls of the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Last season, the Midshipmen were in the top 25 poll for seven weeks, rising as high as #17 and finishing the season 20th.
 
Loyola enters the game ranked No. 17 according to the IWLCA; No. 18 according to Inside Lacrosse; and No. 16 according to USA Lacrosse.
