PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Navy women's tennis team (15-11) got back to its winning ways on Tuesday, posting a 6-1 victory over non-conference opponent Saint Joseph's (6-16) at the Springton Tennis Club in Media, Pa.
Heading north for their penultimate match of the regular season, the Midshipmen put themselves in front early by sweeping the three doubles matches before notching five straight-set victories in singles action to clinch Navy's sixth road win of the spring.
Doubles play began with freshman
Emma Gu and sophomore
Manci Pal teaming up for a 6-2 win over the Hawks' top pairing of Victoria Tracey and Gisele Tang, while the rookie pair of
Ji Soo Oh and
Peyton Amspacher-Philemon defeated Claudia Perez-Garcia and Addison Melfi, 6-3, on the third court to clinch the doubles point.
Rounding out the doubles lineup, senior
Kate Lee and sophomore
Julia Lee battled out a 7-6 (7-4) tie-breaking victory against Charlotte Kordonowy and Brooke Tackett in the No. 2 position.
Saint Joseph's evened the score briefly when Tracey beat out freshman
Grace Li in a 6-2, 6-1 decision on the No. 2 court, but fellow freshman
Molly Bellia put the Mids back in front with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Tang in the No. 4 matchup.
Kate Lee then put Navy on the edge of clinching with her own 6-1, 6-1 victory against Perez-Garcia at the No. 5 spot, while senior
Emily Tannenbaum knocked off Kordonowy in a 6-3, 6-2 battle on the top court to clinch the Mids' 15th win of the season.
Plaing out their matches, senior
Parvathi Shanker posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Melfi in the No. 3 slot and fellow senior
Sylvia Eklund pulled out a 6-2, 6-0 win over Tackett on the No. 6 court.
