Tannenbaum Named Patriot League Player of the Year, Joins Fermo to Claim Doubles Team of the Year

Navy’s Emily Tannenbaum Earns Second PL Player-of-the-Year Award in Three Seasons; Tannenbaum and Olivia Fermo Become Second-Straight Navy Duo to be Named League’s Top Doubles Pairing

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's tennis team earned a pair of major awards on Friday, as senior Emily Tannenbaum was named the 2025 Patriot League Player of the Year while Tannenbaum and sophomore Olivia Fermo were selected as the league's Doubles Team of the Year, the league office announced.

With Tannenbaum winning the Patriot League Player of the Year distinction for the second time in her career after previously earning it in 2023, the senior also picked up All-Patriot League First Team honors for the fourth-straight season to become the 22nd player in league history to earn four all-league selections and the 11th in league history to be on the First Team all four years.

Fermo and Tannenbaum also become the second-straight Navy pairing to take home Patriot League Doubles Team of the Year, following up on Samantha Johns and Sia Chaudry being the first duo in program history to earn the award last season.

In her final season with Navy, Tannenbaum continued to rewrite the program's record book while compiling a 33-8 singles mark and 27-8 doubles record, including going 18-4 in the No. 1 singles spot during spring dual matches. Holding a total of nine program records, the 33 overall wins and 18 dual-meet victories in singles action this year both matched Tannenbaum's previous single-season program records, while the 27 doubles wins set a new program single-season record. Additionally, the 2024-25 season saw Tannenbaum set the program's career records for singles wins, doubles wins, combined wins and career No. 1 doubles victories.

After breaking the Navy records for career wins in both singles and doubles play earlier in the fall, Tannenbaum then pulled double-duty by winning the Patriot League's automatic singles berth in the ITA Conference Masters Championship and partnering with fellow senior Parvathi Shanker to claim the league's doubles qualification for the same ITA championship event, with Tannenbaum and the Shanker then advancing to within two wins of the NCAA Tournament at the ITA's newest event. The senior then posted a combined 10-1 mark in Patriot League regular-season matches, going a perfect 6-0 in league singles play, and tallied a 12-match singles winning streak that matched the third-longest win streak in program history and fell one match shy of tying her own career-long singles winning streak from last season.

As a pairing, Fermo and Tannenbaum collected a 16-4 overall record and went 10-2 together at the top spot in the spring dual-meet season, with the New York State natives partnering to claim six of their first seven matches together in the fall as well as defeating rival Air Force's top pairing in February. While 4-1 start to the spring was halted by an upset defeat to Bucknell's all-league duo of Whitney King and Abby Platt, the Fermo-Tannenbaum connection then ended their time together with six-straight victories to close out the season, including beating Boston University all-league picks Uma Bakaityte and Gabriella Mikaul twice in a three-week stretch. Since Fermo arrived on campus last season, Tannenbaum and Fermo have partnered to rack up a 26-7 doubles record overall and a 20-5 spring dual-meet doubles mark.
