ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy offshore sailing team wrapped up a successful June racing schedule on Friday, finishing the Storm Trysail Club's Block Island Race Week to cap off a busy stretch.

Opening the month at the Southern Bay Race Week in Hampton, Va., the Midshipmen saw TENACIOUS take first in its class, skippered by
Colin Caraher, while the
Sawyer Barnard-led POSEIDON placed second in its own class.

Then sending five crews to the Annapolis-Newport Race June 7-10, the Mids were led by DEFIANCE's claiming first in the PHRF division, as the
Samuel Mentel-led crew also finished fifth out of all boats.

Taking part in the 171st Annual New York Yacht Club Regatta from June 13-15, Navy then had Mentel and the DEFIANCE crew take sixth in its class and Matt Irving's GALLANT crew place seventh in the same class, while POSEDIAN finished 10th in its own class.

Spending June 20-25 in the Marion to Bermuda Race, three Navy boats finished second, third and fourth in their class. Led by
Nancy Rhodes skippering INTEGRITY to the runner-up spot in the class and third overall, Irving guided his GALLANT crew to third in class and fourth overall while Mentel led the DEFIANCE crew to fourth in their class and fifth in across all divisions. Integrity won a pair of honors for the crew's efforts, garnering the Offshore Youth Challenge Trophy and the Bartram Trophy for best performance by a service academy boat.

Wrapping up the month, Caraher and the POSEIDON contingent took 11th in its class on June 27 at the five-day Block Island Race Week.

Navy continues the summer racing schedule on July 6 at the Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race.
