Navy Women’s Basketball Announces Freshmen Recruiting Class: Christina Liggio

Mids welcome five recruited freshmen to the program

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's basketball program under the direction of sixth-year head coach Tim Taylor is pleased to introduce a talented group of five freshmen, who will be joining the team for this upcoming 2025-26 season. The Class of 2029 consists of five recruited student-athletes from throughout the country. Over this week, each recruit will be profiled with the fourth being Christina Liggio from Colts Neck, New Jersey.

A member of the head coach Joe Montano's powerhouse Red Bank Catholic program, Liggio battled throughout her four seasons with the Caseys and became the 14th player in RBC history to reach the 1,000-point plateau during the team's run through the 2025 Shore Conference Tournament. A multi-dimensional play-maker, she eventually led RBC to the 2025 Shore Conference Championship for the first time since 2013. For her individual success as a senior, Liggio was selected to the All-Shore First Team, as well as chosen to participate in the All-New Jersey North/South All Star Game.

A two-time team captain for the Caseys, she spearheaded her squad's run to the 2024 South Jersey Non-Public A State Championship. Overall, Liggio's teams went a combined 106-17 over her four years of varsity action.

Accomplished on the club scene as well, she competed with the Shoreshots and was coached by Candice Carman and Tracey Sabino.

The daughter of Matt and Jenny, Liggio comes from a family full of strong athletes as her mother played collegiately at Monmouth and Rider (1995-00), while her older brother Matt ('28) is an offensive lineman at Susquehanna and her twin younger sisters Katie ('30) and Tessa ('30) are committed to Rhode Island and Bucknell, respectively. Additionally, her aunt Tracy (Allocco) Tagliaferri played basketball at Monmouth (1989-93) and her cousin Francesca Tagliaferri was a two-time All-American soccer player with Penn State (2018-20) and later Rutgers (2021) before suiting up professional with the North Carolina Courage and Utah Royals in the NWSL.

"When I think of Christina Liggio, the word that immediately comes to mind is Winner," proclaimed Taylor. "I have watched her make so many winning plays at the high school and travel ball levels whether it was a big shot, defensive stop or pass. She knows what her team needs at that crucial moment to impact winning. She is a strong physical guard who competes through contact and can finish in a variety of ways. She is extremely hard to defend because of her ability to make threes and finish plays. I love how hard she plays and competes every possession on both ends of the floor. I love that she is a gym rat who keeps getting better every year. She played for great coaches in the Shoreshots organization such as Tracey Sabino and her mom as well as the legendary Joe Montano from Red Bank Catholic where she helped lead RBC to the State Championship in her junior year. She also scored over 1,000 points in her career which is impressive at RBC where there are so many great players. Christina will be prepared for the transition to college basketball because of these experiences."
