WINGATE, N.C. – The Navy women's triathlon team capped its opening weekend with a second-place finish out of five teams at the Bulldog SuperSprint in Wingate, N.C., on Sunday morning. Wingate won the event with 110 team points.

The race format featured a 300-yard swim, 8.5-kilometer bike and 2.2-kilometer run, and was split between prelims and finals. The top-12 times advanced to the A final, while the next 12 moved on to the B final.

"This team showed a ton of character racing twice this weekend," said Navy triathlon head coach
Billy Edwards. "We learned a lot about what we need to work on and now we have time to improve. Credit to the plebes for leveling up and showing that we are always going to fight."

Navy opened the day strong in prelims as seven of its eight competitors qualified for finals.
Natalie Wang (26:00),
Keira Wilkinson (26:00) and
Dylan Cashin (25:57) advanced to the A final, while
Allison Miller (26:51),
MC Kistler (28:26),
Leah Norton (29:24) and
Madelyn Berry (26:48) secured spots in the B final.

Wang led the Midshipmen for the second-straight event with a sixth-place finish in 25:42. Wilkinson followed in seventh at 25:50, while Cashin rounded out the A final in 12th at 26:58.

Miller won the B final (13th overall) with a time of 26:54. Kistler placed ninth (21st overall) in 28:32 and Norton finished in 28:54 for 10th (22nd overall). Berry put forth a gritty performance as she ran the final two miles of the bike portion after a flat tire and placed 12th (24th overall) in 43:49.

The Mids will be back in action in three weeks when they travel to Beaver Run Park, Pa., to race in the Duquesne Collegiate Cup on Saturday, Sept. 20.
