BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The strong freshman campaign of Navy women's soccer's
Helen Bonner continued over the weekend and on Monday she was recognized as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. She was noted for her efforts versus Boston University on Saturday.
Bonner played a pivotal role in Navy knocking off the defending PL Champions Boston University on Saturday as she didn't leave the pitch over 90 minutes of action and scored the Mids' first goal of the game with a 20-plus yard blast into the upper-90 in the 53rd minute. Additionally, the talented freshman defender set up fellow plebe
Jessica Black for Navy's third and final goal of the match in the 71st minutes to seal the 3-1 victory over the preseason Patriot League favorites.
Suiting up in 10 of the Mids' games in 2025, Bonner leads the team with 815 minutes of playing time and has helped the defense hold opponents to just seven goals for a 0.64 goals against average. Willing and able to join the offensive rush, the McLean, Virginia native has recorded a pair of goals, while taking 10 total shots.
This is the first Patriot League weekly award of her career and fourth overall for the Navy women's soccer program in 2025. Earlier award winners include,
Marlee Heaven (Offensive Player - Aug. 18 & Sept. 1) and
Natasha Stramrood (Goalkeeper - Aug. 18).
Bonner and Navy will be back in action this Friday with a conference road tilt at Colgate. Kickoff between the Mids and Raiders is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y.
