Opening Kick
•   Navy (4-0) and Air Force (1-3) will square off Saturday afternoon on CBS (12 noon) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (34,000) in Annapolis. The contest is presented by USAA and supported by ManTech, Hawkeye 360, Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan and Navy Exchange. Saturday's game is sold out.
•   Navy drew a Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium-record crowd of 38,914 for the Tulane game last year. The previous record was 38,803 against Air Force in 2023.
•   Navy owns a 752-603-57 (.553) record over 145 seasons. The 752 wins are the 23rd most in FBS history, the most of any Service Academy and the most of any team not in the Autonomy 4.Â
•   Saturday's contest marks the first leg in the battle for the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy. It is presented annually to the winner of the football competition among the three major service academies — Army, Navy and Air Force — and is named in honor of the President of the United States. The winner of the CIC visits the White House in the spring. If the teams all go 1-1 against each other, whoever currently possesses the trophy keeps it, but they do not get to visit the White House. Navy is currently in possession of the trophy after winning it last year.
•   Navy has won the trophy 12 times in the last 22 years, including last year. The Mids have won the trophy a total of 17 times overall: 1973, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1981, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2024.Â
•   Navy has won 29 of the last 44 Service Academy games against Air Force and Army.
•   Navy has gone on to win the CIC Trophy 12 of the last 13 times it has beaten Air Force.  Â
•   The winner of the Navy-Air Force game has gone on to win the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy in 40 of 53 years (.755).    Â
•   The home team is 9-3 (.750) in the last 12 Navy-Air Force games, but the road team has won 3 of the last 4 contests. Air Force defeated Navy in Annapolis in 2021 (23-3) and again in 2023 (17-6), while the Mids defeated the Falcons 34-7 in Colorado Springs last year. The Falcons have won 4 of the last 5 against the Midshipmen with Navy snapping a 4-game skid to Air Force last fall. Navy last beat Air Force at home in 2019 (34-25).
•   First-year Naval Academy Director of Athletics Michael Kelly attended his first college football game on Oct. 4, 1975, when Navy shut out Air Force 17-0 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Fifty years to the day, Kelly will experience his first Service Academy game as Navy's Director of Athletics against the very same Air Force Falcons.
•  Â
Brian Newberry has started off his head coaching career at Navy with a 19-10 record. A win over Air Force would make him 20-10, the best 30-game start by a Navy head coach since Wayne Hardin went 20-9-1 from 1959-61. Ken Niumatalolo, the winningest head coach in school history, started his first 30 games at Navy with a 19-11 record.
•   Navy has won 16 of those 19 games under Newberry by double figures. The only non double-figure wins in the Newberry era were a 21-20 win over Oklahoma in the 2024 Armed Forces Bowl, a 27-24 victory over North Texas in 2023 and last week's 21-13 win over Rice.
•   Navy does not have any players from the state of Colorado.
•   Navy will start the year playing 4 of its first-5 and 5 of its first-7 games at home. The Mids will finish the season with 4 of its final-5 games played away from Annapolis.  Â
•    Navy has started the season 4-0 in back-to-back years for the first time since 1978-79. The 1978 team started 7-0 and finished 9-3, which included wins over Air Force and Army and a win over BYU in the inaugural Holiday Bowl. The 1979 team started 6-0 and finished 7-4, which included wins over Air Force and Army.
•   Navy's 14 first-time starters this year are tied with Louisiana Tech for third most in the country.Â
•   Navy has won 7-consecutive games dating back to last year, that is tied for the 4th-longest active winning streak in the country with Ole Miss and Louisville. Memphis has the longest winning streak in the country at nine games, while Missouri and Ohio State have won eight-straight contest.
•   Navy is 1 of 3 teams in the American still unbeaten, joining Memphis and North Texas. Nationally, 20 teams remain unbeaten after 10 teams lost their first game last week.
•   Navy and Ole Miss are the only 2 teams in the FBS that are 3-0 in conference play.
•   Navy has outscored the opposition 66-26 in the 2nd half this year. Â
•   The Mids are averaging 352.3 rushing yards per game this season, which leads all of FBS. Florida State is 2nd, averaging 336.3.Â
•   Navy's 18 rushing touchdowns are tied for the 3rd most in the country with conference foe North Texas, Vanderbilt and Missouri. Florida State leads the country with 20, while conference foe Memphis is 2nd with 19.
•   Navy has recorded 450 yards or more of total offense in all 4 games this year. It's the 1st time Navy has had 450 or more yards in 4-consecutive games since 2015. Navy has only gained 450 yards of total offense against Air Force 5 times in series history, but if the Mids can accomplish that it would be the first time in school history that Navy has had 5-consecutive games of 450 yards or more of total offense in a game.
•   Navy has won 75-consecutive games at home when leading after 3 quarters, the nation's longest streak. The last time Navy lost at home when leading after 3 quarters was Oct. 23, 1999, when the Mids led Akron 29-13 and lost 35-29.
•   Navy is 2nd in the country in passing yards per completion, averaging 18.1 yards per catch. Saturday's opponent, Air Force, is 1st at 21.6 yards per completion.
•   The Navy offense is 6th in the country in time of possession, holding on to the ball on average 34:11 per game.
•   The Navy offense is 4th in the country in red zone touchdown percentage with 18 touchdowns in 21 attempts (.857).
•   The Navy offense is 1st in the nation in 3rd down conversions, converting 29 of 47 (.617).
•   The Mids are tied for 2nd in the country in sacks allowed, giving up just 1 sack on the year (0.25 / gm).
•   Navy has given up just 3.00 tackles for loss per game, which is the 6th fewest in the country.
•   Navy has had 5 offensive plays go for 60 yards or more, tied for the 3rd most in the FBS with UCF and Air Force. USC and UTSA lead with 6.Â
•  Â
Blake Horvath (Sr. / QB) has thrown just 7 interceptions in 189-career attempts for an interception percentage of .037 per attempt. That mark is tied with Ricky Dobbs for the 5th-best average in school history. The Navy record is .017 set by current Navy radio analyst Keenan Reynolds, who threw just 8 interceptions in 462-career attempts.
•   Horvath's 169.4 career pass efficiency rating is the highest of any quarterback in Service Academy history with 150 or more attempts. Dating back to 1956, he is 1 of just 20 quarterbacks in FBS history to have a career passing efficiency of 169 or better with 175 or more passing attempts. Horvath is one spot behind Florida's Tim Tebow, who finished his career with a career passing efficiency of 170.8.
•   Horvath and Malcolm Perry (2016-19) are the only two Navy football players in school history to have multiple runs of 90 yards or more in a career.
•   Horvath's average of 8.0 yards of total offense per play (3,721 yds on 463 plays) over his career is the 2nd-best mark in school history. Shun White holds the record at 8.9 (2005-08).
•   Horvath is averaging 17.3 yards per completion in his career (112 comp. / 1,937 yds), which is the 2nd-best average in school history. The record is 18.8 set by Ricky Dobbs (2008-10).
•   Horvath is ranked as the 9th-best rushing quarterback in the country by PFF with a grade of 78.7
•   Pro Football Focus ranks
Landon Robinson (Sr. / NG) as the #3 rated interior defensive lineman in the FBS with a grade of 89.8 and the #2 rated interor defensive line pass rusher with a grade of 90.5.
•  Â
Eli Heidenreich's (Sr. / Snipe) 11-career receiving touchdowns are the third most in school history. He is just 2 away from tying the school record set by Rob Taylor (1965-67) and Phil McConkey (1975-78). Heidenreich's 1,223 receiving yards are just 14 yards away from Bert Calland (1,237 / 1971-73) for 5th on Navy's all-time list.
•   Heidenreich is ranked as the 6th-best receiving running back in the FBS, while Tecza is ranked as the 3rd-best receiving running back in the FBS by PFF.Â
•   Either Heidenreich or
Alex Tecza (Sr. / RB) have scored a touchdown for Navy in 21 of their 27-career games (they have scored in the same game 8 times, including the first-3 games in 2025). Heidenreich has 18-career touchdowns (7 rush, 11 rec.), while Tecza has 19 (17 rush, 2 rec.).Â
•  Â
Braxton Woodson's (Jr. / QB) 180 yards rushing on 7 carries against VMI are the most yards rushing on 7 carries or less in an FBS game since LSU's Clyde Edwards-Helaire ran for 188 yards on 6 carries against Arkansas on Nov. 23, 2019 in a 56-20 LSU win.
•  Â
Jackson Gutierrez (So. / QB-RB) is listed on the depth chart at 2 different positions. He is the only player in the FBS to be listed on the three-deep depth chart at quarterback and another position.
•   Ira Oniha (Jr. / CB) broke up 3 passes in Navy's 42-23 win over Tulsa. That mark is tied for the 2nd most at Navy in the last 20 years.

Commander-In-Chief's Trophy History
• The Commander-In-Chief's Trophy is presented annually to the winner of the football competition among the three major service academies — Army, Navy and Air Force — and is named in honor of the President of the United States.
• Navy has won the trophy 12 of the last 22 years and has won 29 of the last 44 Service Academy games against Air Force and Army.

• When there is no clear-cut winner, the trophy remains with the winner of the previous year's competition. Â
• The three-sided trophy stands two-and-a-half-feet tall and is engraved with the academy seals.  Reproductions of the three mascots — the Army Mule, the Navy Goat and the Air Force Falcon — are ensconced on the respective sides of this bauble.  The trophy is sponsored by the West Point Association of Graduates, the Naval Academy Alumni Association and the Air Force Association of Graduates.
• The year in which the trophy is won is engraved on a plate gracing the respective academy's side of the trophy.
