ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field teams will hit the road for the first time this season Saturday, traveling to Philadelphia for the Penn-hosted Penn Elite at the Ott Center. Events begin at 11 a.m.

Last Time Out
Multiple top-10 finishes and season-best marks highlighted Navy's performance at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational last weekend at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis.

Navy competed in multi-events for the first time this season in both the pentathlon and heptathlon.
Sara McConnell won the pentathlon with 3,305 points, capturing the high jump at 1.59 meters (5 feet, 2.50 inches) and the 800 meters in 2:26.01 to secure the overall victory.

Nick Simmons claimed the heptathlon title with 5,174 points, posting individual victories in the 60 meters (6.95) and the shot put (12.97 meters).

The distance runners shined in the track events, as Navy competed in the 5,000 meters for the first time this season. Jacob Crouch edged teammate Jonathan Skemp for the win, finishing in 14:52.09 to Skemp's 14:54.34.

Patrick Gandini captured the mile title with a career-best time of 4:04.60. On the women's side,
Sophie Compton won the mile in a season-best 4:49.61.

The 60-meter hurdles came down to a photo finish, with Jason Keiser crossing the line in 8.05 to defeat George Mason's Davian Burke (8.06).

Brian Schloeder tied the 10th-highest pole vault mark in program history, clearing 5.20 meters (17-0.75) to win the event.
Pair of Mids Earn Patriot League Weekly Awards
Schloeder and Keiser earned Patriot League weekly honors this week. Schloeder was named the league's field athlete of the week for the first time this season, while Keiser collected rookie-of-the-week honors for the second time.

Navy Notes
•Men's team captain Nathan Kent is set to compete in his second meet of the season. He made his debut last week in the 200 meters, clocking the seventh-fastest time in program history at 21.26 to place second.
• Navy will send a combined total of 94 athletes from the men's and women's teams to the Penn Elite.
• Keiser has impressed in his freshman campaign, owning the team's two fastest times in the 60-meter hurdles this season after posting an 8.17 at the Navy Indoor Invitational.
• Dane Eike looks to continue a strong start to the season after winning the 3,000 meters (8:08.74) for the first time in his career last weekend.

Nalina Smith will look to carry her momentum into the Penn Elite after winning the shot put (13.36 meters / 43-10) and weight throw (16.32 meters / 53-6.50) for the first time in her career.

Zoie Tesi owns the 33rd-best high jump mark in the nation at 1.78 meters (5-10).
• Sheldon Ulmer's high jump mark of 2.14 meters (7-0.25) is tied for the 20th-best height nationally.
• Simmons and Jordan Wolverton rank 24th and 28th nationally, respectively, in the heptathlon.
