Wrestling Earns EIWA Road Win at American, 34-3

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Navy wrestling team (5-4, 2-1 EIWA) earned an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) road victory Saturday night, dominating American (5-8, 1-3 EIWA), 34-3, at the Meltzer Center. The Midshipmen won nine of the 10 bouts and collected five bonus-point victories to secure the conference win.
 
"This team really came together this weekend," Navy head coach Cary Kolat said. "It was solid performances across the lineup, we controlled all areas of wrestling. Now we'll use this time to prepare for our final two duals and keep building momentum."
 
Navy opened the dual at 125 pounds with Andrew Binni posting a narrow 2-1 decision over JJ Peace. Binni recorded escapes in the second and third periods and added a riding-time point to give the Midshipmen an early lead.
 
American evened the team score at 3-3 at 133 pounds, as No.16-ranked Maximillian Leete defeated Brendan Ferretti, 7-2. It proved to be the Eagles' lone win of the night.
 
The Midshipmen quickly regained control at 141 pounds, where 33rd-ranked Caedyn Ricciardi rolled to a 17-5 major decision over Raymond Lopez. Ricciardi scored five takedowns and secured riding time to put Navy back in front.
 
At 149 pounds, Kaemen Smith extended the lead with a 5-2 overtime victory against Owen. Smith picked up a crucial reversal in the final seconds to push the match into sudden victory where he finished the bout with a takedown.
 
Jonathan Ley followed with a 7-3 decision over Kaden Milheim at 157 pounds and No. 30-ranked Dylan Elmore delivered bonus points at 165 pounds, cruising to a 12-1 major decision against Austin Craft.
 
Navy broke the dual open at 174 pounds when ninth-ranked Danny Wask recorded a first-period fall over Liam Packer at the 1:54 mark.
 
Daniel Williams added another win for the Midshipmen at 184 pounds, edging 22nd-ranked Caleb Campos, 11-9. Williams scored a takedown in each period and had 1:07 of riding time for the upset victory.
 
Zyan Hall, who entered the week ranked 29th at 197, continued the scoring surge with a 16-0 technical fall against Teage Calvin. Hall put the bout away in the second period with a takedown and six total near-fall points.
 
Spencer Lanosga, ranked 14th at heavyweight, closed the night, securing a 4-2 decision over Emmanuel Ulrich to finalize the victory.

Navy will have a short break before continuing its EIWA slate when it welcomes Bucknell on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
