Wask Leads Navy Wrestling to Strong Finishes at Soldier Salute and Southern Scuffle

CORALVILLE, Iowa — Danny Wask won his weight class to power the Navy wrestling team to a fifth-place finish at this weekend's Soldier Salute in Coralville, Iowa. Another group of Midshipmen competed in and placed eighth at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Four Mids finished among the top four in their weight classes at the Soldier Salute and five earned top-eight finishes at the Southern Scuffle.

Missouri won the Solider Salute team title and Penn State placed first at the Southern Scuffle.

"We felt we put the guys through the right training cycle over the break to prepare them for this weekend," Navy head coach Cary Kolat said. "Saturday showed exactly what we wanted to see, with multiple bonus-point wins and strong performances. Today, we took some hits and looked a bit flat. Danny [Wask] put together a great tournament, and he needs to keep building on that."

Soldier Salute Highlights
Wask won all five of his matches to win the 174-pound championship, which was capped by his 4-1 sudden-victory decision over Iowa's Gabe Arnold in the finals. He also recorded a 17-1 technical fall against unattached Paolo Ciatto, pinned Missouri's Kolten Oborny in 1:58 and added a 14-3 major decision over Iowa State's Jacob Helgeson.
