ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Cross country runner Dane Eike and volleyball outside hitter Paige Buzzerio were named this week's Naval Academy Athletic Association Athletes of the week, presented by USAA. Eike led the men's cross country team to a Star victory over Army, while Buzzerio helped volleyball claim a five-set win against the Black Knights.

Eike helped lead the Navy men's cross country team to a decisive victory over rival Army, securing a 19-42 victory in the 4.9-mile race in the annual Star Meet, which is part of the overall Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA at the USNA Cross Country Course in Annapolis. The junior led the way, claiming the individual title with a winning time of 23:46.4 to help the Midshipmen to its eighth consecutive win for the Navy men's cross country team in the series. Eike started the race in third through the first 1,000m and moved up to second place one mile in. The junior took the lead at the fourth checkpoint and never looked back, cruising to the 12-second victory.

Buzzerio led the Mids with 16 kills and added 6 digs and 2 blocks in Navy's five-set win over Army on Saturday. She entered the match with a total of nine kills, 17 digs and one block this season as she has worked her way back from a season-ending knee injury suffered in the team's second match of the 2025 campaign. The 16 kills were one shy of tying her career high of 17, and it was accomplished despite her not playing in the first set against the Black Knights.

Cross country continues the 2026 campaign on Saturday, Oct. 31 as the Midshipmen take part in the Patriot League Championship in Lewisburg, Pa., while the Navy volleyball team continues action this weekend as the Mids host Holy Cross (Friday, 6:00 p.m.) and Colgate (Saturday, 12:00 p.m.) at Wesley A. Brown Field House.
