ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Saturday saw the Navy men's tennis team (13-9) register a 6-1 victory over Long Island (1-3) and lose a 6-1 match to Richmond (2-5) at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.

Navy 6, LIU 1
Navy won two of the three doubles matches to earn the point.  After the Sharks won a 6-2 match at No. 3 doubles, Steve Nguyen and Jake Young posted a 6-4 victory at No. 2 over LIU siblings Dan and Jason Lemmon-Warde.  The Mids secured the point when their No. 1 tandem of Herrick Legaspi and Charlie Spencer defeated James Vincent and Bassil Touban by the score of 7-5.

The Sharks had to retire early in two of the singles matches, which gave the Mids a 3-0 lead.  Legaspi defeated Touban, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1 singles to give Navy the match clinching fourth point.  Also, Young recorded a 6-0, 6-4 win over Jason Lemmon-Warde at No. 4 singles and J.J. Etterbeek tallied a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Vincent at the No. 3 flight.

Richmond 6, Navy 1
The Mids had the chance to win the doubles point from the Spiders as George Cutone and Tommy Kim combined for a 6-0 win in their No. 3 match against Charlie Burdell and Otto Sewell.  However, Richmond won matches by scores of 7-5 at the No. 1 flight and 6-2 at No. 2 to take the 1-0 lead.

The Spiders won a trio of three-set matches, two of which saw Richmond players win after dropping the first set, on their way to securing the match.  Navy's lone win came from Kim, who won a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Sewell at No. 4 singles.

Navy will play a pair of matches on both Friday (Georgetown, at Delaware) and Saturday (Brown, Norfolk State).
