Navy Track & Field Begins Outdoor Season at Long Beach Opener

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track & field teams open the outdoor season this weekend with a trip to Long Beach, Calif., for the Long Beach Opener on Friday and Saturday at Jack Rose Track.
 
Friday's competition will feature only throwing events, including the men's and women's hammer throw and javelin, beginning at 2 p.m. ET (11 a.m. PT). Saturday's action begins at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) and will feature both track and field events.

Reviewing the Indoor Season
The Mids enjoyed another strong indoor campaign, sweeping Army in the Star Meet while the men captured their sixth-consecutive Patriot League title.
 
The men defeated the Black Knights, 98-83, in Annapolis to secure their seventh-straight indoor Star victory, matching the program's longest winning streak in the series from 2002-08.
 
The women also defeated Army, posting a 94-87 win for their seventh-consecutive victory in the rivalry. Combined, Navy has won 26 straight Star competitions across indoor and outdoor seasons (men's and women's teams).
 
The indoor season concluded with the men winning their 16th league championship, breaking a tie with Army for the most titles in Patriot League history. Navy scored 218 team points at the Track and Tennis Center in Boston, Mass., outpacing second-place Army, which finished with 182.5 points.
 
The coaching staff, led by director of track & field Jamie Cook, earned Patriot League Men's Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the sixth-consecutive season.
 
Nine Midshipmen earned First-Team All-Patriot League recognition after winning individual events at the conference championship.

On the women's side, Zoie Tesi delivered a breakout performance by winning the high jump and placing second in the triple jump to help the team finish third at the league championship.

Academic All-Patriot League Recognition
Five Midshipmen were named to the Patriot League all-academic team during the indoor season.
 
Student-athletes must carry at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key contributor to qualify for the honor. Freshmen and first-year students are ineligible.
 
The honorees were Logan Flament, Justin Mumford, Brian Schloeder, Jamison Scott and Cooper Wakley.
 
Previewing the Outdoor Season
Following this weekend's meet in Long Beach, Navy will compete at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Invitational on March 14 in San Diego, Calif.
 
The Midshipmen will face rival Army in the Army-Navy Outdoor Star Meet on April 11 in West Point. The men extended their outdoor Star winning streak to 13-consecutive meets last season with a 104-99 victory, while the women secured their 10th-straight win in the series with a 107-96 result.
 
The outdoor slate also includes the Patriot League Outdoor Championship, which Navy will host May 15-16 at Ingram Field in Annapolis. The Midshipmen will then compete at the NCAA East First Round May 27-29 in Lexington, Ky., followed by the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore.
 
Navy returns two-time Patriot League Men's Track Athlete of the Meet Nathan Kent, who earned the honor in both 2024 and 2025. Last season, the men won seven of 22 events at the league championship and placed nine athletes on the First-Team All-Patriot League list.

The women return their lone first-team all-league performer from last season as Jia Anderson, who placed third in the 100m and 100m hurdles at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship.
