#7 Women’s Lacrosse Hits the Road for Midweek Tilt at Lafayette

Opening draw between the Midshipmen and Leopards is slated for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The #7 / #6 Navy women's lacrosse team (13-1, 5-1 Patriot League) travels to Easton, Pa. for a midweek Patriot League game against Lafayette (4-8, 0-6 Patriot League) at Fisher Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live stats will be available.
 
With a win, the Midshipmen would clinch a spot in the upcoming Patriot League Championship Tournament.
 
All-Time Series
The game marks the 18th meeting between the two teams in women's lacrosse. Navy holds a 17-0 (1.000) overall record against Lafayette. The Mids are 8-0 against the Leopards in Easton with a 9-0 mark in Annapolis.
 
The two teams have met every season since Navy joined the Patriot League with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. No Patriot League games were played in 2020 and the conference was split into divisions in 2021, resulting in Navy and Lafayette being in separate divisions and not playing one another.
 
In 2024 when the two teams last met in Easton, 37 Midshipmen saw action as Navy posted a 17-5 victory over Lafayette at Fisher Stadium. Seven different Mids scored goals in the game, including four hat tricks.
 
Last season, #22 Navy posted an 18-4 victory over Lafayette at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Thirty-eight (38) Midshipmen saw action in the game. As a team, Navy finished with 18 goals on 37 shots, while limiting Lafayette to just four goals on 11 total shots. The Mids won 21 draw controls, picked up 20 ground balls, while causing 12 of the Leopards' 23 turnovers
 
Scouting the Midshipmen
The Navy women's lacrosse team enters the week 13-1 on the season, including a 5-1 mark in the Patriot League. The Midshipmen have held eight opponents this season to single digits, including five conference foes.
 
As a team, the Midshipmen have tallied 206 goals with 104 assists, while picking up 258 ground balls, winning 192 draw controls, and causing 130 turnovers.
 
Entering the weekend, Alyssa Chung, Taylor Miles, Ava Yovino, Emma Kennedy, and Mikayla Williams lead the team with 40 or more points apiece.
 
Chung paces the team with 69 points on a team-high 51 goals with 18 assists to her credit. The sophomore has registered 27 multi-goal games (35 games total) with 23 hat tricks, including multiple scores in all 15 regular-season Patriot League games played with 13 hat tricks.
 
Miles follows with 44 points on 30 goals and 14 assists, while Yovino has notched 42 points thanks to 17 goals and a team-high 25 assists. Williams is next with 41 points on 26 goals and 15 assists, while Kennedy, who is second on the team with 33 goals, rounds out the Midshipmen's top five with 40 points with seven assists to go with her 33 goals.
 
Maggie DeFabio, Anna Gotterup, and Bella Paradiso close out the Mids double-digit point scorers. DeFabio has 22 points on 16 goals and six assists, while Gotterup follows with 14 points on a balanced seven goals and seven assists. Paradiso has 11 points on eight goals and three assists to close out the double-digit point scorers.
 
Kat McAteer and Chloe Brown add seven and six points. McAteer has a balanced four scores and three helpers while Brown has five goals and an assist. Caroline Gage and Rowan Kimmel have five and two points, respectively. Gage has four scores and an assist, while Kimmel has one goal and an assist. Landen Cain (1a), Julia Frosch (1a), Jaclyn Johns (1a), Grace Mitchell (1g), Natalie O'Neill (1g), Zoe Ryan (1g), and Lily Schmalz (1g) close out the scoring with one point each.
 
Defensively, the Midshipmen have held their opponents to 8.36 goals per game. The Navy defense has held eight opponents – Villanova (5 goals), High Point (6 goals), South Florida (8 goals), Bucknell (6 goals), Holy Cross (3 goals), Lehigh (6 goals), Boston University (5g), and #14 Army (8g) – to single-digit goals.
 
The Mids have caused 130 of their opponents' 237 turnovers (54.8 percent). Yovino, Johns, Felicia Giglio, and Chung lead the team with 18, 16, 14, and 13 caused turnovers, correspondingly. Gage follows with nine with DeFabio and Kennedy adding eight apiece. Cain and Miles add seven each, while Schmalz, Tiana Griffin, and Jalin Jenkins are tied with six apiece.
 
Giglio leads the team with 39 ground balls with Yovino following with 32 ground ball pickups. Johns and DeFabio have 24 and 21, respectively, while Gage adds 19 to round out Navy's top five in the category. Cain (17), Chung (16), Kennedy (16), Jenkins (12), Schmalz (11), and Williams (10) close out Navy's double-digit ground balls.
 
Giglio has played and started each game for Navy in the cage, working 799:35 minutes of action between the posts. The junior goalie has 92 of the Mids' 98 saves on the year with an 8.40 goals against average and 45.1 save percentage.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Angelina Price has posted six saves in over under 39 minutes of action (38:55), while sophomore Lila Stachowski saw her first collegiate action against High Point, working the final 90 seconds at goal in the Mids' 14-6 victory.
 
In the circle, Maura Murphy boasts a team-high 88 draw wins. The senior notched her first double-digit draw performance against High Point (14), while adding 11 draw wins against Lehigh. Against the Mountain Hawks, Murphy eclipsed the 100-draw plateau. Yovino follows with 46 draws, while Kennedy adds 20 draw wins and Williams has 17. Yovino recorded her 100th career draw against BU.
 
Scouting the Opposition
Lafayette enters the week with a 4-8 overall record, including an 0-6 mark in the Patriot League. The Leopards enter the game on a seven-game losing streak streak.
 
Lafayette is led by Georgia Swarr and Kristin Igneri who boast 30 and 28 points, respectively. Swarr leads the team with 23 goals to go along with seven of assists for 30 points, while Igneri has 20 goals and a team-best eight assists for her 28 points. Isabelle Pohmer (18g 3a), Evelyn Guyer (11g 6a), and Sadie Martesian (14g 3a) round out Lafayette's top-five-point scorers with 21, 17, and 17 points, in order.
 
Igneri leads the team with 20 ground balls, while Jordan Siemonsen and Emma Toner are tied for the team lead with 11 caused turnovers apiece. Katie Marrs leads the Leopards with 65 draw controls.
 
Kennedy Carr has played and started all 12 games for the Leopards this season. She has recorded 96 saves with 159 goals allowed in 607:04 minutes of work for a 37.6 save percentage and a 15.51 goals against average.

Following the game, Navy continues its road swing by making the trip to Hamilton, N.Y. to play Colgate on Saturday, April 18 (11:00 a.m.). The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live stats will be available.
