GALLOWAY, N.J. // Seniors
Chip Deegan (Newport Beach, Calif.) and
Jack Tarzy (Medford, N.J.) placed among the top 10 to lead the Navy men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Wildcat Invitational played Monday and Tuesday at the Galloway National Golf Course in Galloway, N.J. The Mids closed out the 54-hole tournament with a 44-over par 896 (296-297-303), 14 strokes back from Villanova who won the tournament with a 30-over par 882.
Deegan, who was one of only seven players to play a round under par during the two-day tournament, shot a 1-under par 70 in Tuesday's final round to finish tied for second alongside Villanova's Ryan Pamer. Deegan tallied the second-most birdies in the tournament with 11 and made eagle in the opening round en route to with a 4-over par 217 (72-75-70). It marked Deegan's fourth top-five finish this year, including his second runner-up finish.
Tarzy entered the final round just 2 strokes back from the leader, but fell back 5 spots in the final standings following a 6-over par 77 in Tuesday's final round. He finished the tournament in a three-way tie for eighth with a 10-over par 223. It was Tarzy's fifth top-10 finish this year.
Rounding out the lineup for Navy was
Sebastian Alonzo (Azusa, Calif.) in 26th with a 15-over par 228 (74-75-79),
Hudson Mitchell (Fr / Pensacola, Fla.) in 34th with a 17-over par 230 (76-75-79) and
Danny Auffant (Jr / Bellevue, Wash.) in 53rd with a 23-over par 236 (81-78-77).
Playing as an individual,
Josh Durthaler (Fr / Dunwoody, Ga.) closed out the tournament in 56th with a 25-over par 238 (83-75-80).
The Midshipmen will play their final regular-season tournament before the Patriot League Championship when they travel to Bridgeport, W.Va. next Monday and Tuesday to play in the Mountaineer Invitational.
