Men's Golf | 5/20/2026 5:15:00 PM

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. //  The Navy men's golf team closed out its season on Wednesday, placing 14th at the 2026 NCAA Winston-Salem Regional. Competing at the par-71, 7,013-yard Bermuda Run Country Club, the Mids finished the three-day, 54-hole tournament with a 24-over par 876 (295-284-297).

The 24-over par 876 is Navy's lowest NCAA Tournament mark in terms of score and its relationship to par under the current format. Its previous low was a 57-over par 921 (323-302-296) by the 2018 team who played at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla.

The Mids were paced by Chip Deegan (Sr / Newport Beach, Calif.) who completed the tournament with a 2-over par 215 to tie for 42nd. The 2026 Patriot League Player of the Year was Navy's most consistent golfer over the last three days, putting together rounds of 72, 72 and 71. His 2-over par 215 is Navy's lowest mark at the NCAA Regionals in terms of score and relationship to par. The previous low was a 4-over par 220 by both Brian Crum and Billy Hurley at the 2003 NCAA Regional held at the Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash. Additionally, Deegan's 42nd-place finish is the lowest by a Navy player since Crum and Hurley finished 27th in 2003.

Team captain Jack Tarzy (Sr / Medford, N.J.) finished strong for the Mids thanks to his 1-under par 70 in the final round. Tarzy, who won four individual titles this season, finished the Winston-Salem Regional in 52nd place with a 5-over par 218 (79-69-70).

Danny Auffant (Jr / Bellevue, Wash.) was unable to find the same magic he had in round two and slipped from the top 20 into 58th. The third-year letter winner finished the tournament a stroke behind Tarzy with a 6-over par 219 (72-68-79).

Rounding out the group was Hudson Mitchell (Fr / Pensacola, Fla.) in 67th with an 11-over par 224 (72-75-77).

Ed Scott (So / Lemont, Ill.) played the final two rounds for the Mids (81-83=164 / +22), while Sebastian Alonzo (Fr / Azusa, Calif.) played the opening round (84 / +13).

Virginia senior Ben James recorded the lowest 54-hole total in NCAA Regional history to lead the top-seeded and third-ranked Cavaliers (271-270=275=816) to a share of the team title alongside #15 Pepperdine (273-274-269). Virginia held a 6-stroke advantage over the Waves going into the final round. The two programs covered the three-day tournament with a 36-under par 816.

Joining Virginia and Pepperdine in advancing to the NCAA Championships, #10 Ole Miss finished third with a 31-under par 821 (278-269-274), #28 USC placed fourth with a 27-under par 825 (278-279-268) and #39 Mississippi State took fifth with a 26-under par 826 (278-272-276).

After a final round of 65 on Wednesday, James' 54-hole total of 194 was the lowest ever by an NCAA DI golfer at a regional. It broke his own NCAA record of 196 set back at the 2023 Las Vegas Regional and at 19-under was one stroke off matching his NCAA relation to par mark of 20-under. According to CollegeGolfData.com, James is the 13th men's golfer ever to win multiple NCAA Regionals – 2023 Las Vegas Regional and 2026 Winston-Salem Regional.
