ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's rowing team under the guidance of head coach Joe Schlosberg is pleased to announce that rising senior Lucy Weems has been elected to lead the program as the 2026-27 team captain. A two-time varsity letterwinner, Weems has been in the mix with the Mids' top-two boats throughout her time rowing on the Severn River.

"I'm honored to have been selected as captain for the upcoming year and excited for what this team is capable of," remarked Weems. "We've built a lot of momentum, and our focus is on continuing to improve every day as we prepare for the spring season. We expect to pick up where we left off last year and continue raising our standard. Our goal is to fight from the start to the end of all of our races with everything we have, and I'm excited to see what this team can accomplish together."

Suiting up for competition in 22 races during her first three years at Navy, Weems rowed with the Mids' second varsity eight in the first 14 races of that series before being elevated to the first varsity boat prior to the March 28 contests in Philadelphia this past spring. Including that doubleheader at Temple, the Bethesda, Maryland native raced with the 1V in the final eight races of 2026. At the year-end Patriot League Championship, Weems and the Navy 1V won its qualifying heat with a time of 6:37.582 before coming back in the afternoon and placing fourth in the grand final. In an extremely tight battle over 2,000 meters of the Cooper River, Navy was edged by just 0.715 seconds as MIT grabbed the final spot on the podium with a 6:30.845 to 6:31.560 decision. As a program, Navy finished third in the team standings at the regatta.
