Brian Solomon Places 19th at 2026 U.S. Championships

Rising senior advanced to Saturday night's final after ranking 17th following day one

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Coming off an All-American result at the year-end NCAA Championship this past April, rising senior Brian Solomon of the Navy men's gymnastics team was back in action on the biggest stage with competition at the 2026 U.S. Gymnastics Championship during the weekend of August 6-9. The national championship for all American gymnasts from youth, club, collegiate and Olympic-level programs, the multi-day event kicked off on Thursday night, August 6 with qualifying action at the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Following six rotations of all-around competition, Solomon ended up 17th in the standings and received a qualifying berth into Saturday's finals. During those finals  Solomon nearly mirrored his scoring results and left Arizona ranked as the 19th-best all-around gymnast in the nation.

"I'm very pleased with how he performed," remarked assistant coach Ryan Terrill, who is with Solomon at the championship. "This was a huge stage for Brian and he did a good job of shaking off the nerves and getting into the groove of the competition on day one. He carried himself well throughout the meet, event after event. It was an exciting gymnastics event all around with a ridiculous field of gymnasts throwing out incredibly difficult skills and routines. We're glad that Brian advanced to the second day of competition and had another chance to perform on the nation's grandest stage."

Solomon's first night of the competition began on the vault where he earned a score of 13.2. His evening of action was highlighted on the next apparatus as he hit his parallel bars set with a clean 9.0 execution score of his 4.3-level routine for a cumulative score of 13.3. Solomon continued racking up points as he posted a 12.3 on the high bar and a 12.6 on the floor exercise. His highest individual placement came on the pommel horse as he ranked 19th in the field of 44 with a 12.5 result. Competing for over two-plus hours, time was not on Solomon's side in his final routine as a few arm bends during his rings performance resulted in a tough dismount for his only significant miss of his all-around contest; he netted 11.9 points on the rings. Overall, Solomon scored 75.8 points to rank 17th overall. He was surrounded on the leaderboard by EVO Gym's Michael Jaroh (16th, 75.95) and Stanford's Xander Hong (18th, 75.20).

On Saturday night, Solomon improved on his vault and high bar scores with 0.15-point increases on each apparatus as he earned a 13.35 on the vault and a 12.45 for his work on the high bar. He nearly matched his score on the parallel bars as he garnered 13.25 points. His best execution scores came from the vault and p-bars as Solomon was awarded 8.95 points from the judges. He rounded out his day two performance with 11.3 points on the floor exercise, 11.65 on the pommel horse and 11.8 on the rings for a grand total of 73.8 points. Overall, his combined total of 149.60 points ranked Solomon 19th in the country, just 0.95 points behind Minnesota's Ben Letvin and his 18th-place 150.55 effort. In terms of individual events, Solomon's cumulative score of 26.55 on the parallel bars and 24.75 on the high bar ranked him 20th overall among a field of 35 gymnasts, who competed in both days of competition competition at the championship meet.
