ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's gymnastics program under the direction of head coach Kip Simons is pleased to announce that rising senior
Daniel Gurevich has been elected to serve as the team captain for the 2026-27 academic year. The Frisco, Texas native has provided the program with excellent versatility with appearances on five of the sport's six events during his career, as well as strong leadership both in the gym and in the classroom.
"To be voted upon by not only my classmates, but by the team as a whole is an honor," remarked Gurevich. "They have put their trust in me to help guide the team towards common goals and the growth of their character and leadership throughout the season, and I will forever be grateful.
"I have been telling the team since turnover, and I will continue to reiterate to the guys. As long as you are able to lay your head down at night and truly believe that you gave your all towards the growth of the team and put others' needs before your own, the team has and will continue to be able to leave a lasting impression not only on the NMG Brotherhood, but the Naval Academy as a whole."
A key contributor for the Midshipmen since he arrived on the Yard as a freshman prior to the 2024 campaign, Gurevich has raised his hand in 34 competitions for Navy over his first three seasons. In the regular season, he's been a member of the starting lineup versus Army in all three Star Meets, of which the Mids have posted a sterling 3-0 record, before later providing integral routines in Navy's postseason USAG, ECAC and NCAA meets. At his first three USAG Collegiate Championships, Gurevich qualified for the event finals in each and broke through this past March with a runner-up result in the floor exercise competition. Earlier in his career as a freshman in 2024, he finished on the podium at the ECAC Championship for his efforts on the pommel horse (third place) and parallel bars (tied for fourth). A cyber operations major, Gurevich is a three-time honoree on the Naval Academy's Commandant's List and has been noted on the ECAC All-Academic Team following the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
