ANNAPOLIS, Md. - An action-packed first month of play concludes this weekend for the Navy women's soccer team with home tilts versus Maryland and Marist. Playing within the friendly confines of the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility for six of the program's first seven games this 2026 season, the Mids (2-2-1) aim to take advantage of the home atmosphere as they'll be away for five straight contests following their matchup with the Red Foxes (0-3-0) on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.. First up though is one of Navy's longest standing non-conference rivalries as the Mids welcome the Terrapins (2-0-1) for the 19th meeting between two nearby institutions. Kick-off in Annapolis is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday night.

All of the women's soccer action this week will have live stats provided online, as well as ESPN+ broadcasts. ESPN+ is a subscription-based streaming service that requires patrons to sign-up for monthly or yearly plans prior to tuning into the contest.

The nip-and-tuck series between Navy and Maryland wrote its latest chapter on Thursday night as for the second straight year a second half goal stood up as the deciding tally in a one-score game as the Terrapins (4-1) held off the Mids (4-2) by a score of 2-1 at Ludwig Field on Maryland's campus.

The non-conference tilt was defensive heavy for the majority of the first half before a late Terrapin goal gave the hosts a 1-0 going into the locker room. Maryland received a much-needed insurance score in the 64th minute as a game Navy squad went down swinging with multiple quality looks at net and eventually broke onto the scoreboard courtesy of a Marlee Heaven penalty kick conversion in the 84th minute.

Defense dominated the action as the opening 15 minutes went by with just one combined shot for the two squads, a header on target by Maryland's Eva Mowery that forced Natasha Stramrood to leap to her left to corral the shot.

The game opened up a bit more offensively over the ensuing 25 minutes as the Terps registered the next five shots. Unfortunately, for the Mids a poor clearance deep in their final third and an ensuing well-struck shot by Ellie Egeland ricochetted off a Navy defender and into the back of the net to make it 1-0 in favor of the hosts at 35:12.

Coming out in the second down trailing by one goal, Stramrood made sure the margin stayed the same with her third save of the day when she smothered an Egeland shot in the 52nd minute.

With the Mids still searching for the game-tying tally, the Terps had a loud response at 63:01 when Gemma Davitian hammered home a loose ball rebound off an Emily Lenhard shot that was initially saved for a 2-0 lead.

Down, but not out, Navy increased its comeback efforts as less than three minutes later, Heaven squared up a shot that had eyes for the back of the net, though a Maryland defender threw her leg out inside the box and deflected the attempt away from harm.

The Mids' pressure finally resulted in a score as a shot in the box was batted down by a Terrapin defender's arm for a penalty shot. Calm and composed Heaven deposited her attempt passed the Maryland goalkeeper at 83:09 for her fourth goal of her senior campaign.

Invigorated by this late break, Navy started curling threatening crosses into the box that required constant attention from Faith Luckey, the Terps' goalkeeper, with punches and swats of the ball. Maryland's bend, but not break effort held on for the 2-1 final score.

For the game, Maryland out-shot Navy, 12-6 with a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. The Terps also had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks over the Mids.

Stramrood finished with five saves in goal for Navy.

Navy vs. Marist 
Sunday marks fifth-ever meeting between the Mids and Red Foxes and third in Annapolis ... The brief series dates back to Sept. 3, 1995 when the two programs met in Easton, Pa. as part of the 1995 Lafayette Invitational; Navy was victorious, 4-1 ... Since then the Mids have hosted the Red Foxes twice in Annapolis with the home squad coming away with an 8-0 win on Sept. 13, 2002 and a tighter 2-1 decision on Sept. 12, 2014 ... The two program's most recently met on Sept. 1, 2024 in Poughkeepsie; Navy came away with a 2-1 victory to extend its all-time mark to 4-0 over Marist ... Notes on the Red Foxes, the school transitioned from Marist College to Marist University on Jan. 29, 2025 and saw the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference be renamed to the Metro Conference earlier this summer.

In a tale of two halves at Tenney Stadium, the Navy women's soccer team built itself out a 2-0 lead over Marist College as part of an offensive first half that saw 20 combined shots before the Midshipmen and Red Foxes' defenses tightened up in the final 45 with just four total shots allowed. A Navy (4-3) defensive breakdown on a Marist (0-4-1) corner kick attempt during the second half saw the score go final at 2-1 in favor of the visitors.  

Chiara Cosenza and Amanda Graziano provided the Mids' offensive fireworks with first-half goals in the 16th and 44th minutes of action.

The first half saw both teams active on the offensive attack, but saw their final efforts thwarted by the opposing defenses as 20 combined shots resulted in just three shots on goal over the opening 45 minutes.

Navy's defense made it mark early as it stood tall during a chaotic series of action in the 14th minute when the Mids blocked four shots in succession coming off a Red Fox corner kick before Natasha Stramrood fell on the ball to quell the push.

Navy's effort quickly transitioned to the opposite end of the pitch when less than two minutes later, Rylee Rives launched a throw-in deep into the box to Mimi Abusham, who bodied off her defender and slotted a square pass to Cosenza. Once in control of the ball, Cosenza took aim for the far upper-90 and lofted her shot in for the early goal to put the Mids up 1-0 at 15:22.

The Red Foxes' first shot on goal of the game came in the 38th minute and was easily denied by Stramrood as Anna Maggi's shot didn't have much on it.

The Mids doubled up their lead at 43:07 when Mackenzie Morrow led Graziano into space and after a few dribbles the senior made it count as she deposited her shot into the back of the net.

At the half, Marist was out-shooting Navy, 13-7.

Following the halftime intermission, Marist got onto the scoreboard in the 52' minute when the Red Foxes converted a out-swinging corner kick that Maille McDermott headed home.

With the score 2-1, defense was the name of the game for the ensuing 30 minutes as both teams tallied just one shot each, neither of which were on target. The Mids' final dangerous look came in the 84th minute on a layoff from Marlee Heaven to Graziano about 25 yards from goal, though her shot rang off the football crossbar just over a foot above the soccer crossbar. Navy's defense held off all final looks from Marist in the defensive third to lock in the 2-1 road victory, its first of the young 2024 season.

For the game, Marist out-shot Navy, 15-9 with both teams putting two shots on goal. The host Red Foxes had a significant 7-0 advantage in corner kicks to keep the pressure on the Mids throughout.
